Austin Stacks GAA Juvenile Club News

PEIL FAOI 15: An enjoyable celebration of the efforts, dedication and successes of our Under 15 football team was held in the clubhouse on Friday night last! It was the occasion of the presentation of medals to boys who had worked so hard throughout the season. The Rock U15s received medals for the following successes: County League (Division 1), Kerry Féile (Division 1), Central Region (Division 1), Ceantair Thrá Lí/Naomh Breandán Cup Championship. Ceithre bhonn an duine….not a bad ‘catch’ on one outing!

Club Chairman, Shane Lynch, spoke eloquently and glowingly of a wonderful group of young club players who did themselves, their families and their club proud! Caoimhe from Jigsaw spoke very sincerely to the boys on life, on their teenage years and on how they should be willing to ask advice or seek help if and when necessary. The newly appointed Kerry Minor Manager for 2023, our own Wayne Quillinan, gave an inspiring talk on hard work on and off the field, on the constant practicing of their skills, on listening to their coaches and mentors, on good behaviour when wearing ‘the geansaí’ and on proudly representing their GAA club.

Our dedicated Juvenile Chairman, the long-serving Tim McMahon, presented the medals to all the players. What a really special Rockie night! An occasion to remember! Of course, a bird never flew on one wing and the management ‘team’ also deserves high praise! We salute the Austin Stack Club U15 coaching team: Morgan O’Connell, Ciarán Ó Conaill, Ronan Kavanagh, Theo Ó Duigín and Joe Walsh. Bheidís molta dá mbeimis inár dtost.

SCÓR na nÓG: The Rock requires representatives in Scór na nÓg (Faoi 17)….solo singing, a five-person (boys or girls) ballad group, a grúpa ceoil, a four-person table quiz team, dán/scéal/recitation, a figure dance, a set.

COLÁISTÍ….ROCK PLAYERS IN COLLEGE GAMES: (i) ‘Well done’ to the Mercy Mounthawk U19 footballers v ‘Sceilg’ (Coláiste na Sceilge) last week (7ú Nollaig). They had a fine 0-9 victory…2-15 to 0-12. They’re through to an chéad bhabhta eile, the quarter finals, and they’ve finished 2nd to Coláiste Bhréanainn in their group.

Their next important encounter will take place tar éis na Nollag. We wish them well in their preparations. Fir na Carraige ar an bpainéal: Mícheál Tansley, Jack Ó Murchú, Ben Ó Murchú, Daniel Ó Ciarba, Cillian Litchfield, Paidí Ó Laighin, Noah Townsend, Liam Ó Cearmada. (S.de Rís)

(ii) ‘Well done’ to the Tralee CBS boys who played their hearts out in their game v Clonakilty in the Munster Colleges Senior Football (Corn Uí Mhuirí – Faoi 19) competition. They took up the challenge knowing that a draw or a win would put them through to the next stage of the competition as table toppers and that a defeat would see them eliminated because of inferior score differences to the Cork side and to Coláiste Fhlannáin, Inis. This match took place on Monday last (12th). See final result on www.austinstacks.ie. Seo iad buachaillí na Carraige ar phainéal na Faiche: Colm de Brún (captaen), Éanna Ó Cathail, Ryan Ó Drisceoil, Rónán Ó Cearúill, Josh Ó Loingsigh, Damien Ó hÓgáin, Tomás Derege, Seán Ó Muimhneacháin agus Donnacha Mac an tSaoir.

(iii) Good luck to the Tralee CBS (Faoi 19) boys who were scheduled to face old rivals, Coláiste Bhréanainn, in the final of the Corn Dhún Lóich competition on Wednesday (14th). They had a good semi-final victory over St Michael’s, Listowel. Good wishes to Colm de Brún, Éanna Ó Cathail, Ryan Ó Drisceoil, Rónán Ó Cearúill, Josh Ó Loingsigh, Damien Ó hÓgáin, Tomás Derege, Seán Ó Muimhneacháin and Donnacha Mac an tSaoir in their preparations

(iv) Ár ngaiscígh and our Rac-Realtaí i nGaelcholáiste Chiarraí took a well-earned week of reprieve during the cold snap. They particularly enjoyed the coláiste’s Christmas Market ‘spectacular’ Dé hAoine. Muintir na hIdirbhliana produced a magical, masterfully coordinated afternoon with pancakes, hot chocolates and ball games go leor lenár ndaltaí díograiseacha a shásamh! A few particularly lucky daltaí made their way home with an advance Christmas present afforded them during the many tense raffle draws. Carúil na Nollag echoed timpeall an chlóis fad is gur músclaíodh spiorad an tséasúir san fhoireann teagaisc iontach is sna scoláirí. Christmas jumpers abounded as did a plethora of warm grins. Las aoi speisialta…Daidí na Nollag fhéin….na soilse as an uplifting climax to this exceptional ceremony….the season has well and truly been ushered in! Nollaig faoi shéan is faoi mhaise daoibh! (Dáithí Ó Loingsigh)
