COLÁISTÍ….ROCK PLAYERS IN COLLEGE GAMES: (i) Our sympathies to the Mercy Mounthawk U19 senior boys who were unfortunate v Coláiste Bhréanainn in last week’s semi-final of the Corn Uí Mhuirí competition. We followed our Rock lads with interest and with pride ach, faraor géar, it wasn’t to be. Beidh lá eile ag Michael Tansley, Jack Murphy, Daniel Kirby, Cillian Litchfield, Paddy Lane, Noah Townsend, Ben Murphy agus Liam Carmody.
(ii) Banteer was the Saturday afternoon hotspot for our gaiscígh and their tense supporters as foireann Faoi 19 an Ghaelcholáiste lined out against formidable Hazelwood College (Coláiste na Collchoille) opposition at the state-of-the-art new 4G pitch.

This quarter-final tie was a ‘must win’ for the Gaelcholáiste and they began as they meant to go on with a sublime point from Gavin Ó Caoimh about five minutes into the first half. From there the Gaelcholáiste lads managed to see out the first half in relative calm, in composed form, with Cian Ó Duilleáin ruling midfield by wrestling high balls from his opponent.

They entered an tarna leath with two points over the Hazelwood boys, who returned to the Astro field in efficient form. Highlights from the nail-biting second half included some incredible wide-angle scores from Stacach Gavin Ó Cathasaigh, ably provided by his brother Luke.

Our laochra refused to let two late goals reduce their grip on the game and managed to see out this entertaining tie with a final cracking score from an tUasal Ó Cathasaigh.

Celebratory pitch invaders included Rory Ó Loinsigh and the laochra look forward to a fine homecoming on Monday morning when they will, no doubt, be endlessly praised by their cairde scoile. Coláiste Naomh Pádraig, Castleisland, remain their final opponents sa chraobh chinniúnach; tá an t-am agus an suíomh fós le socrú.

Bígí linn when fixtures are confirmed: these dynamic and talented laochra, who clinched this hard-fought tie with their skill, have more than earned your support! Comhghairdeas ó chroí libh! An bhfeicfear Corn Sheáin Uí Mhurchú i dTobar Mhaigh Dor i gceann cúpla seachtain?

(iii) The Tralee CBS (Faoi 16½) boys are due to face Coláiste Bhréanainn in the final of the Dunloe Cup (Kerry colleges) competition. Táimid ag tnúth go mór leis an gcluiche! Idir an dá linn, Ryan O’Driscoll, Rónán O’Carroll, Fionnán Ryan, Donnacha Horgan and their fellow panelists continue to train diligently!

(iv) Mórchomhghairdeachas le Meánscoil Chnoc an tSeabhaic a bhuaigh ar Choláiste Dhún Iascaigh, Co. Thiobraid Árann, in the Munster Schools Senior B semi-final le haon chúilín amháin…2-12 to 2-11. Éacht agus mórghaisce! They’ll play in the provincial final in mid-February. Rock representatives on the panel: Holly O’Brien, Róise Ní Dhónaill, Mary Moore and Grace Reidy.

PEIL FAOI 17: The Rock U17s challenged Ballymac i bPáirc na mBan Rialta, Connolly Park, on Sunday last in the Minor Town League (2023). It was a tight match on a pitch that has weathered well over the winter.

Our boys finished the encounter with a well-deserved 0-4 victory. A fine result for a first outing. Well done, boys! An fhoireann bhuacach: Steven Conway; James Fisher, Donnacha Horgan, Ciarán Kavanagh; Tomás Ó Conaill, Pádraig O’Halloran (captaen); Jack Barrett, David Lucid, Tomás Deregee; Liam Ó Conaill, Gavin Ó Cathasaigh, Oiliver Lata; Fionnán Ryan, Cormac Bastible, Ryan McMahon, Barry Nagle, Rory Ó Loinsigh, Alex Touhy.
