PEIL FAOI 15: We returned to training 4 weeks ago and in the intervening time we have had great running sessions down in The Green Secondary School on Friday and Sunday evenings. The group has been split into two groups: (a) boys who played U13 last year make up one group and (b) boys who played U15 last year make up the other.
The sessions have been well-attended and the lads have been showing great enthusiasm and are really settling back into their football; they are ‘up’ for the coming season!
They have been eased back into action with some light warm-ups, with ball handling, with basic skill work and with short games to finish the sessions. Over the next few weeks we’ll move into some fitness exercises as well as strength and conditioning work, both indoors and outdoors.
Thankfully, things are looking positive at this early stage of the season and we have an average of 30 boys attending training. Two tournament organising committees have invited us to take part in their early season competitions: an Ghaeltacht in February and Nemo Rangers, Cork, in March. We hope to send teams to both events.
We are already practising our Irish for the Corca Dhuibhne trip….ambaiste! The volunteer coaching team for the U15 boys: Theo Diggin, Pa Laide, Ger Hobbert, Ronan Kavanagh, Morgan O’Connell, Tim McMahon and Frankie Murphy. Go n-éirí go geal leo go leo! (Ger Hobbert)
