FAOI 6/8/10:

Our annual end-of-year celebration (and presentations) for the Under 6/8/10 groups took place on Sunday last at 11am.A great occasion and was enjoyed by all! The Kerry and Munster cups…the Bishop Moynihan Cup and the Michael O’Connor Cup…made the occasion really special. See Adrienne’s photos on www.austinstacks.ie.

PEIL FAOI 14:

(i) On the 8th day of December, Féile Mhuire gan Smál, we had a very enjoyable medal presentation for the all-conquering Under 14 squad of 2014. Dave Scanlon was the fear a’ tí and he ran the show effortlessly and with great wit. Medals were presented by our dynamic senior midfield duo, Greg Horan and Wayne Guthrie, who also spoke to the players.

Thanks, Greg and Wayne, for taking time out of your busy schedule and best of luck in your All-Ireland semi-final preparations. Club Chairman Aidan O’Connor made an impassioned plea to the players to continue to work hard so that in a few years they themselves might also have the opportunity to raise the Bishop Moynihan Cup…‘in your own right, boys’! (ii) During the past season, our Under 14A Team swept all before them, winning the U14 County League Division 1 title (captaen: Dylan Ó Cathasaigh), the Kerry Féile U14 title (captaen: Garry Clifford), the Central League Division 1 title (captaen: Joe Looby-Lugandu) and the Tralee Town League Division 1 title (captaen: Donagh Mac Mathúna).

Mentors: Gene O’Donnell, Michael Casey, Paudie McQuinn, Dave Scanlon, Michael “Chips” Clifford and Eamon Linnane. Well done, all! Your achievements fit in well with the arrival of ‘The Bishop’ and the Munster Cup to The Rock! A year to remember…bliain dár saol! (iii) At the end of June a squad of 24 Rock boys was hosted by the Barna GAA Club in Galway as part of the All-Ireland Féile series and the boys distinguished themselves well by winning the qualifying group and by reaching the All Ireland Division 1 quarter final; unfortunately, they were eventually beaten by a crack Nemo Rangers outfit.

We look forward to meeting that same Nemo team AS SENIORS and reversing the result!!) A Video on the trip may be viewed on www.austinstacks.ie. A vital part of the back room team for the weekend was Seáiní de Pao…mórbhuíochas, a Sheáiní! (iv) Fundraising for Féile was excellently organised by Lorraine Scanlon, Tom Quilter, Joan Casey and Pat Carmody…table quiz, sponsorship cards and bag packing were the main methods used.

Generous sponsorship was also provided by Barry’s Bakery, Adams’ Bar and Restaurant of Dingle, Office and Ink of Rock Street and Terry Healy Butcher. Thanks to all…go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir. We also enjoyed refreshments that were kindly supplied for the Féile Trip to Galway by Barry’s Shop, Upper Rock Street…deochanna gan sárú!

(v) Full results can be seen at Kerry GAA Website: http://www..kerrygaa.ie/. Match reports and photographs for the year can be found on our Club Website: http://www.austinstacks.ie/. (vi) We are indebted to Super-Rockie Adrienne McLoughlin who was with us through thick and thin…not just last Monday but throughout the year…and captured our key moments for posterity; her camera skills are dotted throughout the website, match reports and An Fhéile souvenir booklet.

A big ‘thank you’, once again, to all who made contributions. (vii) We would also like to express our appreciation to the other team mentors with whom we dealt over the year: John Purcell and the Under 12 coaching team and Pat Slattery and his Under 16 men…buíochas libh, a leaideanna. Hats off to Ian and his team at the Clubhouse, to Dinny O’Connor, John Breen, Mike Kenny, Brian Caball (GRMA!), Mike Lynch, Elma Nix, Martin Collins, Liam Lynch, Aidan O’Connor and Tim McMahon for their ongoing support, advice and hard work…thanks to the team behind the team!!

SCÓR NA SINSEAR:

Senior Scór will take place in the spring. Now’s the time to begin the preparations. We could do with a group of figure dancers and of set dancers. Full information on competitions on Kerry GAA website (under Cultúr). Only definite item as of now is solo singing and, maybe, a ballad group.

RAIDIÓ CHIARRAÍ: Listen to some Scór na nÓg items on Kerry Radio between 9am and 11am on 24th December. Cuir cluas éisteachta ort féin!!

GAELCHOLÁISTE CHIARRAÍ: Bhí bua 8 bpointe ag Gaelcholáiste v Meánscoil de la Salle. I measc na n-imreoirí bhí Pádraig Ó Luanaigh, Shane Ó Néill agus Dara Ó Scannláin. Maith sibh, a leaideanna.

CEANTAR THRÁ LÍ: ‘Well done’ to our seniors on reaching another final…Tralee District Championship. An mbeidh corn eile againn don mbliain nua?

AUSTIN STACK v ROBERT EMMET

The 15th day of Feabhra is the date of the year when Rockies and Robbies in Port Laoise’ll appear. We’ll fight tooth and nail for a place in Croke Park just to cheer up St Patrick on his feast day in March! The 16th Man Brigade will light up O’Moore Park with songs, chants and drumming that will shrivel Slaughtneil! And our hopes and our dreams for our boys on the field will be GIVE IT YOUR ALL for the Amber and Black. Yes, give of your best for The Top of The Rock!
