PEIL FAOI 16: (i) Congratulations to our U16 County League (Roinn 1) winners v Killarney Legion in Austin Stack Park last week. What a finish to a fantastic season….battling hard in the semi-final….being pitted against the boys from the Little Oak Wood (Doirín) and being crowned County League champions.

The weather conditions were poor and, so, we had the proverbial game of two halves. Legion had the gale force breeze at their backs for the first half and after some stout defending and hard graft we were down…0-1 to 0-5…ag an sos. Our only score came from inspirational full-back Ruairí O’Connell. The second half was only seconds old when a fantastic move ended with a stunning goal by Josh Lynch.

Obviously, the week’s training camp in Portugal was worth the money! That gave us the lift we needed. Some great football followed….1-1 from play by Jordan Kissane….and that edged us into a well-deserved lead.

Scores from the bench followed….Donnacha Sayers and Noah Townsend chipped in. Conor Horan and Shane Bastible followed with 0-2 and then Legion added 0-2 of their own. When the final whistle blew we were winners of the 2019 County League. Scór deireanach: 2-8 to 0-8. There were fantastic displays  by many players but it was the overall team performance once again that got the job done!

Special mention goes to Joey Nagle and Ruairí O’Connell and to Donnacha Fox and the whole defensive cooperative for their trogan efforts in the first half. Team: Ben Quilter, Donnacha Fox, Ruairí O’Connell, Jack Murphy, John Feely, Joey Nagle, Evan Foley, Josh Lynch, Dean Rusk, Gavin Slattery, Shane Bastible, Conor Horan (captaen), Donnacha Sayers, Jordan Kissane, James Charles, Subs: Brian McElligott, Gearóid Kilgallen, Enda Cahill, Seán Collins, Colm Brown, Darragh Moriarty, Jack Doyle, Noah Townsend.

(ii) On Saturday last we were privileged to have been given the opportunity to partake in the inaugural Niall McGillicuddy Tournament at the Legion Club in Doirín. Indeed, we enjoyed a great day out at a very special and well-run sporting event. We qualified for the shield semi-final having tried an experimental team set-up….Joey Nagle was tried in his new full-forward position and got two exceptional scores and Jordan Kissane excelled at full-back! In a free taking shoot-out Ruairí O’Connell scored the clincher from 30 yards.

Some awesome displays were given by Darragh Moriarty, John Feely, Enda Cahill and super sub Cian Dillane. We were feeling the day’s earlier efforts in the shield final but super efforts from Gavin Slattery, Conor Horan, Brian McElligott, super ‘keefer Evan Foley (watch out, Ben!), Kevin Barry and our captain fantastic, Shane Bastible, we succeeded.

We say thank you to Donie and all the lads at Killarney Legion for the great organisation and the great welcome. Great credit goes to all the lads because of the enthusiastic way they rose to the challenge and the way in which they represented the club. We are very proud of their efforts. An fhoireann: Gavin Slattery, Evan Foley, Conor Horan, Joey Nagle, Darragh Moriarty, Enda Cahill, Ruairí O’Connell, Donnacha Fox, John Feely, Shane Bastible, Kevin Barry, Jordan Kissane. Bheadh na peileadóirí seo molta da mbeimís inár dtost!

MIONÚIR: Congrats to our club minors who pipped Corca Dhuibhne in the Minor County Championship quarter final i bPáirc Uí Chonghaile an tseachtain seo caite. An-bhua go deo! Go raibh gach ádh libh sa chéad chluiche eile.
