Ballymac U-9 girls at a challenge game on Sunday last in Kileen V Na Gaeil

St Kierans Minors
St Kieran’s are training presently for the upcoming County Championship in September/ October . Ballymac have13  players on the squad and St Kieran’s  play against Austin Stacks West Kerry & Dr Crokes .  It was great to see such a huge turnout for our first training session in Ballymac last Wednesday night .
Up to 30 players have shown an interest in playing for the Divisional side , 13 players from Ballymac . St Kieran’s hope to have a challenge game next Wednesday evening in preparation for the County Championship.Best of luck to all players in the campaign ahead.

U17 team

Our u 17 s travelled to Kenmare to take on the locals in the County league semi-final last Monday evening.
On a perfect evening for football the locals started in whirlwind fashion and lead by 8 points to no score after 20 mins. Ballymac were unlucky not to hit the target on several occasions and were left to rue those missed chances at the end of the game. Niall Collins & Donal Daly got us on the scoreboard with a brace each, but Kenmare hit back with 2 more points to leave the half time score 0 11 points to 0 04 in favour of Kenmare .

Kenmare extended their lead early in the second half ,  but Ballymac rallied to score a brace of points from Maurice o Connell and a cracking goal from James Kenny to leave the score 0 15 to 1-06 at the 2 nd water break .
Jack Slattery was unlucky when  his goal bound shot was saved on the line .Further points followed for Kenmare , but James Kenny Maurice O’Connell Niall Collins & Donal Daly added further points for the visitors to keep the scoreboard ticking over . However Kenmare were not to be denied, and hit us for a goal (penalty) and further points to run out winners on a final score line of 1 – 21 to 1-12.
The scoreboard didn’t do our boys justice as numerous chances went a begging in the first 20 mins, but credit must go to Ballymac for a spirited fight back in the second half. Thanks to all players for all the effort they put in the last couple of months. They can be so proud of their achievements.
Thanks to everyone who travelled on the night to support the Team.
Thanks to Kenmare for a fine sporting game and we wish them the best of luck in the final.

U15 Team

The Ballymac Blue team were to play Castlegregory in the Central League Div 3 league on Thursday last. The game was called off as Castlegregory was unable to field a team. Our Gold teams play Austin Stacks in Connolly Park on Monday night next.

U13 Team
Our u13 Blue side began their Castleisland District campaign on Sunday evening last with a trip to Cordal.

Our point taking ability in the first half saw us lead at the break on a 1-10 to 0-3 scoreline.

A couple of goals in the third quarter saw us further extend our advantage and while the home side never gave up we ran out winners on a 4-16 1-11 scoreline.

The Gold team took on Desmonds in Castleisland where our young side put in a mighty performance before going down on a 2-11 to 2-8 final score.

Last Sunday week The Gold team travelled to Ardfert in the last round of Phase 2 of the Co League.

Throughout the game exchanges were close with the little between the sides.

At the final water break the sides were level at 2-5 apiece.

A few early scores saw the home side take control in the final quarter and despite the best efforts of our Boys,Ardfert ran out winners on a 3-9 to 2-6 scoreline.

The Blue side entertained Miltown/Castlemaine in their final Phase 2 game.

Ballymac were slow to start and the away side made their dominance show on the scoreboard.

However as the game wore on we got into our stride and brought the deficit to two points, entering the last ten minutes a late Miltown goal saw them stall our comeback which saw them run out winners.

Full credit to our Lads for the way they never gave up and fought to the end.

U11 Team

On Thursday night last Ballymac U11 gold team were at home to Kenmare . It was a perfect evening for football and both teams were really looking forward to this game as it was the last game in the second phase of the county league go games.
Our gold team played Austin stacks in the last game and I think both Ballymac teams and management learned a lot from that game that we could put to good use for this encounter against Kenmare.

To be fair to our 15 lads they were all in super form and after a quick warm up with Mossy and a chat we got to work.

From the throw in Finn Hannah collected a ball popped it into Darragh Lyons who kicked the first of his two points in this half. From the kickout Kenmare went down to the other end and scored an equally well work score.  It was a sign of things to come in this ding-dong end to end game with great scores taken on both sides.

In the first quarters of the game Blake and David really started coming to the fore  in our defence once again with Darragh Leen in goal and with Jack Stack,Killian, and Rory in a very strong half back line working so hard with and without the ball for the team as they set up attack after attack.

Flynn and Finn who are turning to into very formidable solid midfield pairing time and time again ran at the Kenmare backs In these two quarters there was an amazing spread of long range points scores with Flynn Boyle And Darragh Lyons turning into two top quality sharp shooters. But these sharp shooters would not get into these positions only for great work from the rest of our forwards.

In the third quarter it was the turn of our forwards to lead the way, with Aidan O Connor, Jack Hobbert, Dylan Scanlon and Regan Zhang working up and down the flanks and supplied Pin point passes to our inside forward line who made hay with Jack Harper scoring two goals in quick succession and with Aidan and Darragh pointing to put a little bit of daylight between the teams before the second water break.

After quick chat and a well-earned drink we lined up for the last quarter and again our boys got stuck in we had scored three well worked goals that David Clifford would be proud of to put the game out of reach from Kenmare, but to be fair to Kenmare their coaches should be very proud of their charges because at stage’s all through the game they had us to the pin of our collar and only for some outstanding teamwork from our lads which has been with the boys all year got us over the line.

The game itself has to have been the most competitive and enjoyable to watch game between two very even teams that we have been involved in all year.  A super performance from our lads again who are well on their way to becoming a brilliant team.

Thanks again to Mossie Brennan the referee on the night and again to our great support on the night.

Academy.
On Sunday morning last (15th August)  Our U7s travelled to Connolly Park to play Austin Stacks in their first game! It was so exciting for all our kids to play in the Ballymac Colours!

It was a wonderful morning and Thanks to our coaches and parents who travelled and a big thank you to all the children and to Austin Stacks for a great welcome.

The U6s continued training as normal in our main pitch. Another lovely Sunday morning session with our under U6’s this week with nearly 30 of our youngest players. The children’s ball handling skills are improving week on week and they love showing off all the skills they’ve been practicing at home.

As the squad has shown such brilliant team working, this week we had our first attempt at a first proper mini-game, a huge sign of progress! We look forward to integrating games more into our practice in the coming weeks.

Ladies Notes:

Senior Ladies

Donal Curtain Cup Final

Monday 23rd August 2021

Ballymac 1-06 V Firies1-16

An epic battle was had in Ballymac. Conditions where perfect. Firies started the game better and were in control from the start. Great credit just go to Ballymac ladies they never once dropped the heads and battled to the end.

The game had it all. Fantastic points from play and placed ball. The game had a great flow with great passages of play. Hand passing and fielding where on the highest level. Unfortunately, Ballymac came out on the losing end of the final. It was fantastic to play in front of a very sporting crowd.

U9 Girls
Our U-9 girls traveled to NaGaeil on Sunday early morning for a challenge match. Two matches of 11 a side.
With great support for both teams the games ebbed and flowed with each side having periods of supremacy.
A great morning was had by all and no doubt these players will meet again in the years to come.

U12 Girls

County League

Sunday 22nd August 2021

Ballymac 4-12 to Na Gaeil 1-10
On Sunday afternoon our girls played Na Gaeil in the last round of the County League. With a few girls on holidays we gave the team a bit of rearranging and everyone adapted to their new positions well.
The main focus for the game was to get scores from more players and the girls did not disappoint.
Ballymac started the scoring early and at the first water break the score was 1:04 to no score. Emily Heffernan and Michelle O‘Connor getting in for two points each and Katie Turner pouncing for a goal.
In the second quarter Molly O’Connor scored a goal and a point. Tara Slattery scored a great goal and Michelle O’Connor got in for a point. Na Gail too found some form scoring 1:04.
Half time score was Ballymac 3-06 Na Gaeil 1:04
In quarter three Aideen Healy scored a point Molly O’Connor scored a point and Michelle O’Connor scored 04 Points. While Na Gaeil just manager the one point from play.
Quarter four saw Ballymac tire a little and were just outscored in this quarter. Molly O’Connor scoring a goal for Ballymac while Na Gaeil got in for 05 points.
The final score was Ballymac 4-12 to Na Gaeil 1-10 however we are well aware Na Gaeil were somewhat under strength for this game.
It is likely these two teams will do battle soon in a B Final.
The defence for Ballymac again was superb on the night and Grace Kelly in goals had some great saves.

County League Wednesday 18th August 2021

Rathmore 1-08            Ballymac 1-08

On Wednesday evening, 18th August, our girls travelled to Rathmore on a damp night.

The light rain was welcome from the Midge flies who were homing in on supporters but made ball handling difficult for both teams. A thrilling game of football unfolded and all spectators were left completely rejuvenated from the Match.

Ballymac were on top in the early stages and quickly pointed from the edge of the box to open the scoring, Rathmore immediately responded with a point of their own.

The play was between the half forward lines for long periods before Ballymac earned a free again just inside the Rathmore 21 and the resultant kick doubled the Ballymac lead.

The Rathmore defence held strong and in particular their goal keeper was outstanding making three point blank saves. Rathmore equalised with a point of their own before the water break leaving the score 02 points each.

The second quarter was a carbon copy of the first, Ballymac got in for two scores and Rathmore were kept to two scores by some outstanding defending.

Half time score 04 points each.

In the third quarter both teams went in search of that vital goal and Ballymac finally netted past the keeper with a well worked goal. Celebrations were short lived as Rathmore struck for a goal and two points in quick succession. Ballymac responded with a point from a free and for the first time there was the narrowest of margins at the water break.

Rathmore 1-06 to Ballymac 1-05

The Ballymac girls knew they were in a battle but felt they had the wherewithal to get something from the game. Into the final quarter with both teams battling hard Ballymac held strong and scored 3 points the last from the boot of Abigail Geary.

Abigail had been having an outstanding game at centre back and was moved to midfield for the last few minutes. The energy she brought made all the difference. Grace Kelly was outstanding in goals and in defence Sinead Scanlon and her defensive comrades hounded their markers for every loose ball. Michelle O’ Connor normally all over the pitch but carrying an injury moved to forwards for this game and did not disappoint kicking 1-07 of the 1-08 scores on offer.

Emily Heffernan, Molly O’Connor, Katie Turner and Fiona McCarthy were in flying form on the night and were a real thorn in the Rathmore defence.

A draw was a fair result for both teams playing football in the right spirit and the referee on the night was flawless.

Next up is Na Gaeil on Sunday evening, 22nd August, in our last county league round game. Team standings for the various finals will be revealed in the coming week.

Great credit to the panel of 17 girls who made the journey on the night and we will welcome back the other three holiday makers on Sunday evening.
