Reports from Coiste NÓg Agm

Over next few weeks I will include the various reports

U5 BOYS & GIRLS The second year of this age group as part of our Academy was another success. Attendance each week ranged from 10-20 children, with a total of 36 children regularly participating.

At most sessions, more girls than boys were in attendance, especially among the younger ages. This year we have made a switch to more games-based skills learning with the initial coaching and support from Tom Joy, GDA.

This approach has proven very popular with the players and there is a noticeable difference in levels of engagement across all ages and experience when games, props and equipment are well incorporated into training sessions (warm-up, individual stations, and collective play to end).

All coaches are keen to see this approach continued next year and investigate how we can increase parent/guardian participation in these games to extend learning from the pitch to home.

The increase in number of coaches available for this age group this year (seven in total) has facilitated splitting children into groups based on ability.

This approach permitted the stronger players to collectively progress to learning more technical skills as befits this age grouping (e.g., solo, pick-up, mini matches) and prepares them for moving up the age groupings next year.

We are confident that our graduating players will do well at the U7 level next year. The greatest benefit of this approach was to the younger or newer players who were split into smaller groups to learn basic skills in a more comfortable environment, at a group directed pace and with a smaller coach to player ratio.

This approach supports retention and lays solid foundations and confidence in these players that can be built upon next year. 5 Our utmost thanks to our coaches this year for their enthusiasm and dedication to the skills development of this age group.

Thanks to the guardians and parents for bringing the children each week. And finally thank you to our players – we wish the best of luck to our graduating players in the U7s and for our returning players, we look forward to more fun and games in March 2023.

Message from Children’s Officer

For all new and existing coaches, many thanks for volunteering your time for the underage of our club, there are a few things we need to have in order as the season begins

Everyone need an up-to-date garda vetting certificate- this is done by logging into Foireann needs updating every 3 years
A child protection course which needs to be done every 3 yrs
A level 1 coaching course
I can help with getting these sorted just ask, it is of utmost importance that no one coaches until these are done.
