Ballymac Senior Men

Tralee/St Brendan’s Senior District Championship Quarter Final
Kerins O’Rahillys 4-12 Ballymacelligott 3-16
Venue: Strand Road
5th November 23

Ballymac went into this game defending their Tralee/St Brendan’s title from 2022. Fourteen minutes into the second half Ballymac did not look like they would achieve this as they were trailing Strand Road 4-10 to 1-09.  Nonetheless, they clawed back the lead and won the game. Captain Vinnie Horan led the way and galvanised his teammates throughout the game, especially in the closing quarter.

The first half opened with a point from Vinnie Horan, within two minutes Strand Road had scored a goal and a point. Two points from Daire Keane and Daragh Regan followed by a goal from Vinnie Horan after a great interception by Tomas O’Connor. With nine minutes on the clock, the score was KOR 1-01 Ballymac 1-04, our point coming from a free taken by Vinnie Horan.

Strand Road upped the pace and scored three unanswered points and the game was level. Darragh O’Connor & Niall Collins swapped points. In the 20th minute, Christy Leen saved a goal only to see the rebound caught by Daniel Bowler who hit the back of the net. Strand Road added two points. Just before the halftime whistle Vinnie Horan scored a point from a free.

The half-time score was: 2-07 to 1-06.

Kerins O’Rahillys completely dominated the first fourteen minutes of the second half. Scoring 2 goals and 3 points in a complete blitz.

It looked even worse for Ballymac when Rahilly’s added on another point and were 11 points in front. However, despite this, the Ballymac lads showed grit and determination and fought on.  Vinnie Horan had scored two goals in two minutes and Donal Daly had added a point in between.

It was 4-11 to 3-10 with twelve minutes left. Conor Brick added a point. There was now a goal between the teams. Two points followed from frees from Vinnie Horan and a point from play from Daire Keane.  Tadhg Brick added a point. Strand Road missed a free. The game was now two minutes into added time.  Ballymac had the minimum of a lead: 4-11 to 3-15. Could they hold on?

Vinnie Horan scored a free four minutes into injury time and just before the final whistle Strand Road scored the last point of the game.

Final Score: Kerins O’Rahillys 4-12 Ballymacelligott 3-16

This was truly a great result for our side, especially after the disappointment of last week. It took great courage and commitment to come back from eleven points down—great credit to all the players who showed up and played with such determination. Captain Vinnie Horan scored the first and last point of the game for Ballymac and in total, he scored 3-08. What an inspirational leader.

The next game is due to be played in two weeks.

Our u16 Girls team finished the Year on a high by winning the North Kerry Division Two title with a victory over Na Gaeil on Monday evening last.

We started well with early Jill Quirke goal settling us, defensively we were sound throughout with Maire Culloty, Sarah O Rourke, Ashlinn Baily and Rose Brosnan giving little away.

At half time we led on a 1-7 to 0-4 scoreline.

Our midfielders Anna Collins and Emma Daly dominated this section and provided a plentiful supply of ball to the forwards where Michelle O Connor, Katie Hobbert and Katie Landers were a constant threat to the Na Gaeil defence.

We played some super football with excellent passing movements resulting in Jill completing her hat trick in this half.

Mention must also be made of goalkeeper Debra O Connor who kept a clean sheet and was also excellent on her kickouts.

Thanks also to u14 players Sorcha Healy, Katie Turner, Fiona McCarthy and Alice Savage who came on as subs and contributed to the victory on a final score of Ballymac 3-10 Na Gaeil 0-7.

Ashlinn Baily accepted the Cup after the game on behalf of the team.

Today, we played our u14 North Kerry league final against Castleisland Desmonds B in the harshest of weather. Half time score Ballymac 3:03 Castleisland 1:05.

Castleisland rallied with some great scores in the 2nd half and led by a point with 3 minutes to go. But great credit to the persistence of our Ballymac girls who scored the last 2 points to win out on a scoreline of Ballymac 3:07 Castleisland 2:09. Our end of season win was celebrated with food & refreshments in the Half Way bar. Thanks to all the parents for your support throughout the season.

U13 Medal Presentation Fri 3rd November. Half Way Bar

Our u13s wrapped up their season with a medals presentation night at the Half Way Bar who have been great supporters of the club.

We were delighted to have our Senior Captain Vinnie Horan on hand to present the boys with their medals and he thanked the boys and parents for all the support they showed the senior team this year.

Kieran Savage, Coiste na nÓg Club Chairman congratulated the boys on winning the u13 double of Castleisland District and Tralee/ St Brendan’s Board and urged the boys to keep working on their skills.

Coach Thomas Lyons thanked the boys for all their hard work and the parents for carrying the boys to training and games. The boys were also presented with a trophy each to mark their successful season.

Thanks also to two generous sponsors who covered the cost of the trophies and the food on the night. The medal presentation was followed by a BBQ and it was a most enjoyable evening. This team is going from strength to strength and we look forward to seeing them all again next season.
