The Lee Strand Tralee/St Brendan’s League 2024

Round 2
18th February in Ardfert

Churchill  3-09 V Ballymacelligott 0-15

Another solid performance from our Senior team on Sunday last. Despite losing to Churchill the team played well.

Jamie Burke made his senior debut with an accomplished performance and Shane Gilroy continues to show improvement.  Vinnie Horan and Brian Cassidy had outstanding games and losing both to injury made a difference to the team’s dynamic.

Jamie Burke.

The game was played in Ardfert on Sunday. Churchill’s Joe Lenihan got a blistering goal in the first minute of the game. It took Ballymac a good ten minutes to settle and when they did they performed solidly. Donal Daly scored Ballymac’s first point.

This was followed by two more from Vinnie Horan and Daire Keane. Churchill added a point. Then Ballymac played nice football for the next ten minutes linking up well and scoring a further four points from Donal Daly, Daire Keane, Vinnie Horan, and Michael Herlihy.

After 20 minutes Ballymac had a three-point lead. However, Churchill scored another goal to narrow the margin to one point and added two more points before halftime.  Churchill turned over a lot of Ballymac ball in these last ten minutes and it made the difference.

Half-time score: Churchill 2-03 to Ballymac 0-08.

Churchill opened the scoring in the second half with a point. Three points followed from Vinnie Horan. Heroic work done by Daire Keane who assisted in two. Josh O’Keeffe replaced Vinnie Horan who was injured after eight minutes of the half.

Ballymac continued to dominate for the next ten minutes and had just one point from Donal Daly added to the scoreline. Churchill added a point, Dara Broderick replied with a great point. Injured Brian Cassidy was replaced by Barry Lyons.

With eight minutes left, Churchill pushed on and leveled the game 2-06 to 0-13. In the next five minutes, Churchill scored a goal and two points.  Donal Daly added two points before Churchill scored the last point of the game.

Full-time score: Churchill 3-09 to Ballymac 0-15.

It was good to see Donal Daly back and our senior players Daire Keane, Tadhg Brick, Darragh Broderick, Cathal Dunne, Vinnie Horan, and Brian Cassidy work hard and give great leadership to all the younger players. All are gaining confidence from the matches.

Many Thanks to Tralee/St Brendan’s Board for the competition and to Ardfert for the fine facilities on Sunday.

Ballymac Minors

Ballymacelligott GAA  v  Keel Listry – Minor – Div 1 A –  First Round

Ballymacelligott GAA 3-16 (25)

Keel/Listry 0-06

Our Minor team played Keel/Listry on a cloudy, relatively calm afternoon in Brosna on Saturday, 17th of February in the first round of the county league Division 1B.

In the first half, Ballymac showed great intent with some great running/attacking football on display and tenacious defending at the other end. Eoghan Joy made some great penetrating runs from deep to supply direct ball and even contributed with his own fine score from the full back position.

It was his brother, Jack who found the back of the net with a fine finish to give Ballymac momentum. The score at half time was Ballymac 1-10 Keel/Listry 0-04

In the first ten minutes of the second half, the game became a little more competitive with both sides having key times in possession however it was Ballymac who continued to show their dominance.

Further goals from the ever-threatening Jack Joy along with scores from Gearoid Healy, Ciarán O’Connell & Eoin Moriarty ensured Ballymac powered to victory. It was a solid first competitive outing of the season for our minors but also, with plenty to work on.

We would like to put on record our thanks to Brosna GAA for the use of their pitch on Saturday. It was greatly appreciated and the pitch itself was in fine condition for the time of year. Our next county league game will be confirmed over the coming week. Please keep an eye on the club social media for further details.

Congratulations Niall

Congrats to our super Niall Moriarty who had the honour of being one of the flag bearers at the Kerry-Mayo game on Saturday.
