A BALLYSEEDY girl has stuck to her guns and made a huge gesture by not only donating a substantial amount of her hair to the Rapunzel Foundation but also aiding the  Chernobyl Children’s International Project.

Last July, nine-year-old Roisin Sugrue, wrote a letter to pledging that she would donate hair to the Foundation and raise funds for the Chernobyl charity after her First Communion which she made this May.

She raised funds in her school, Caherleaheen NS and on Friday it was the big day when the locks would be cut off. “I really wanted to do it,” said Roisin who raised around €400.

Grandmother, Mary Sugrue, has been involved with the charity for 20 years and is a regular visitor to the effected area in Belarus.

“I just think it’s amazing that a little girl of nine can come up with this idea and she wants to something for children so far away who have nothing,” said Mary.

The money will go towards a trip to Belarus coming up in September where Chernobyl Children’s International Project will carry out dental care for those affected by the Chernobyl nuclear power station disaster 30 years ago and its aftermath.

Chernobyl Children’s International Project, is run by humanitarian Adi Roche.
