THE memory of a former Austin Stacks player was to the fore on Saturday for the Trevor Barrett Memorial Hurling Tournament.
Despite the late withdrawal of the Laochra Og team from Cork and the shortage of some players on the Dr. Crokes and Causeway teams due to other commitments, the tournament was played off in good spirits and comradeship in Connolly Park.
The first game saw Austin Stacks take on the “United Nations” team of Dr. Crokes/Causeway, with the latter proving victorious. Following a refreshments break, these teams lined out again.
Trevor’s family were all present in the clubhouse with Austin Stacks, Dr. Crokes and Causeway players to see Richard Barrett present the Trevor Barrett Memorial Cup to Dr. Crokes captain, Kevin Landers.
Trevor Barrett played hurling and football for the Austin Stacks club. He died in April 2014 after a short illness.
Man of the Match presentations were made to Brian Cantillon of Causeway and Stephen Kavanagh of Dr. Crokes. Player of the Tournament was Johnny Downey of Austin Stacks. Scroll down for photos…
