BLENNERVILLE Rehabcare has been presented with the Pieta House Amber Flag
An initiative to promote mental health among the youth.
The Amber Flag initiative is a programme that encourages schools, colleges, clubs, and societies to work to bring about and promote a cultural change in the way we think about mental health.
Con O’Connor from Pieta House was on hand on Monday morning to hand over the flag to staff and service users at the Blennerville centre.
The Amber Flag initiative is in its 4th year and over 500 flags have been awarded to date. Mercy Mounthawk also received an Amber Flag back in May.
The Pieta House Amber Flag iniative recognises the individual efforts of schools, companies and groups to create healthy, inclusive environments that support mental well-being, and unites these groups in their efforts, working together toward a happier, healthier Ireland and eradicate the stigmas associated with mental health issues.
In order to be awarded the Pieta House Amber Flag, applicant groups must host a mental health awareness event, a fundraiser, and a mental health initiative. The programme encourages team work and student contributions and works with school guidance counsellors to include a peer-support element.
