THE newly formed Kingdom Pickleball Club is looking for people to come and try the new sport with weekly session in Tralee.

Members from Castlegregory Pickleball, who play the game regularly in Camp Community Hall, came together to create the Kingdom Pickleball Club. Their aim is to open the ever-popular game to anyone over eighteen years old.

Pickleball combines many elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. It is played on a badminton-sized court using a modified tennis net. The game is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes. It can be played as doubles or singles. The game can be enjoyed by all ages and skill levels.

Debbie Quirke, instructor and referee said; “It’s a wonderful fun social and low impact game that is sweeping the country. No prior racquet experience is necessary to enjoy the game and it ticks all the boxes as a positive mental health activity”.

Together with support from Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership, they have now secured the facilities of Cumman Iosaef in Tralee for weekly sessions — starting on Tuesday, July 4 at 5pm to 6pm— and it is hoped the sport will go from strength to strength with increased times and extra sessions in the future.

“It is hoped that we can secure many other venues throughout the county in the next few months,” said Debbie.

All equipment will be provided in the club. Instructors will be on site to explain and teach the game and the organisers would love as many people as possible to try the sport.

The club is only open to players 18 years old and older. Following this launch day there will be weekly Pickleball sessions every Tuesday in Cumman Iosaef, Tralee. The cost is €5 per week per person.

Maeve Ryan, Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership said,; “The Kingdom Pickleball Club will be a great addition and will offer people the chance to try a new sport, to keep active, have some fun and meet with others. Come along, try it out!”
