THE Chief Executive of the Tralee Chamber Alliance is calling for the government to make grants available to refurbish rooms in listed buildings in Tralee so they can house start-up businesses.
Speaking on Radio Kerry’s ‘Kerry Today’ programme this morning, Kieran Ruttledge especially identified listed buildings in Denny Street and Day Place that could be opened up as office space.
“All it takes is a little incentive from the government in order to get these places refurbished and open for business and get people in,” said Kieran Ruttledge.

“If you look at where we’re [Tralee Chamber Alliance] located on Denny Street. We’ve done fantastic work on the offices there, now people come in and go ‘wow, these are great offices’. So why shouldn’t that be the case for all of Denny Street and all of Day Place?” he said.
“One of the things that we wanted to do with the second floor of Denny Street is refurbish it and open it up to start up businesses. We weren’t looking to make a profit on them, we were looking just to cover our costs. So if we can achieve a small grant to restore the second story of our building, we would do that and we would encourage start-ups to come in.”
