Senior B: Churchill’s second team kicked off their Cahill Cup Championship with a win over St Senans on Thursday evening in Churchill.
Final score was Churchill 4-03 ; St Senans 0-05. Sean Mortimer, making his long awaited return from injury, came on as second half sub and scored two goals to seal the victory. Next up is a trip to Renard in the Quarter Final on Saturday week, 9th September.
Academy: The Academy was back in full swing last weekend and again there were huge numbers from U6 to U10. Training continues next Sunday morning at 11. Remember to bring gum shield, water and €2.
U12A: Central league Div 1A: Churchill 3-09 Keel 5-11. We came up just short on Monday night against the county league champions. A spirited display from start to finish had us within touching distance throughout.
There were some outstanding displays from the younger lads, notably, Ryan Hickey, Art O’Sullivan, Billy Doyle, Hugh & Maurice Lenihan. Paddy Falvey and Billy Walsh showed real leadership and enjoyed their best games of the season.
David Chute got the kick outs spot on and Oisin McGibney, Cian O’Gara, Oran Murphy and Cian Mason gave it everything at mid field. Next up is Keel (again) on Saturday in the Ballymac tournament. No excuses this time boys!
U12B: On Monday evening in our new pitch in Churchill we took on Keel in Round 4 of the county league. Our B team was attempting to maintain their unbeaten run and we started the game very well.
From Donnacha’s precise kickouts we were able to launch many attacks with Mark and John Joe dominating the game around the middle. Josh, Ronan and Daithi showed great movement in the forwards and Gearoid kicked some great scores at the end of some great team play to put us well ahead at half time.
In the second half we made a few changes and Rory and Barry really drove us forward. Conor did a great job in goals. Donagh and Josh Elvins kicked some lovely points late on to seal the win by a score of 5-20 to 1-5.
At times our movement and passing was outstanding. Well done to all the boys. We have a tough final game against Ardfert on Monday 4th September at 7pm in our Churchill pitch. Support will be much appreciated.
U13 boys: Last week Churchill U13s travelled to play John Mitchels in a highly entertaining game in the Tralee Town Board Division 2.
Conditions were poor prior to the match and some confusion meant the game was delayed until 7pm. We played with the wind in the first half in the middle of a tremendous downpour where conditions were terrible.
The play was all one end and we pinned Mitchels into their own half for most of the half. We led 5-8 to no score at half time and the rain stopped. After a necessary change of jerseys to keep warm, we defended our lead in the second half.
John Mitchels stormed back into the game but we picked off a few scores to keep us ahead. It finished 5-13 to 5-3. We take on St. Pats on Tuesday 28th August in the new field in Churchill. All players are to be at the pitch for 6:30.
U12 Ladies: The girls played Ballymac B in the first round of the Tralee Town League last Wednesday evening in Ballymac. Although we were a little rusty after the holidays, it was good to play a competitive game again & ran out winners on the night. We play St Pats, Blennerville in the next round at home.
