Ciara Griffin Wins Irish Women’s Rugby Player Of The Year Award

CIARA Griffin has been announced as the Women’s XVs Player of the Year at the Zurich Irish Rugby Players Awards.

The Irish Women’s Rugby team’s captain, who hails from Ballymac, was named as the winner at the awards which took place on Wednesday night at the Clayton Hotel on the Burlington Road.

The BNY Mellon Women’s XV Player of the Year 2019 was voted by the players involved over the last 12 months and three were shortlisted; Anna Caplice, Eimear Considine and Ciara Griffin.

Another Kerry woman, Louise Galvin was shortlisted for the iZest Women’s 7s Player of the Year, but Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe won the award.

Former Irish player Conor O’Shea, whose late father Jerome hailed from Cahersiveen, received the Hall of Fame award. Currently head coach of the Italian national team, he played for Ireland, Lansdowne and London Irish during his career.
