MUNSTER and Ireland rugby legend, Ciara Griffin, will make an unexpected return to Thomond Park this August – this time reaching even greater heights than she is accustomed to.

The former Irish captain is leading the charge for cancer support charity, Recovery Haven Kerry, as they aim to recruit dozens of brave participants for their upcoming Thomond Park Abseil on Saturday, August 26.

Registration is now open for the novel fundraising event, which offers participants a chance to abseil down the rugby fortress that is Limerick’s Thomond Park – while raising funds for the charity at the same time.

The abseil itself takes about 10 -15 minutes, with participants getting a fantastic panoramic view of the iconic stadium before their 125ft descent from the West Stand media box.

Spaces are limited, however – with options for morning or afternoon slots available – so early registration is hugely important.

PR & Marketing officer at Recovery Haven, Marisa Reidy, explained that the abseil is a follow-on from the charity’s hugely successful charity skydive in 2020, which saw over 100 people take part and raise over €30,000 for the charity.

“With so many charities seeking the public’s support to raise much-needed funds, we always try to offer a fundraising opportunity that is different and fun. So, this time we thought, what better way to get people involved than an abseil down the side of Thomond Park,” she said. “As well as an individual challenge, the event is also ideal as a corporate or team building day out.”

Marisa also thanked Ciara Griffin for her incredible support, saying that everyone at the charity is so grateful to have someone of Ciara’s calibre lead the charge.

“The minute we approached Ciara to support this event, she immediately said “sign me up.” Ciara has always been a great supporter of Recovery Haven and that is something we never take for granted.”

Anyone interested in signing up for the abseil can do so by logging onto the www.recoveryhavenkerry.com and clicking the event section, where all registration information will be displayed. You can also register directly via the following link: https://recoveryhavenkerry.com/…/funraiser-abseil-in…/

A €50 deposit is required at registration, after which participants are asked to raise an additional €200 (minimum) for the charity.

This can be paid in full at registration, or if you prefer, can be fundraised in the weeks leading up to the event by setting up a fundraising page or through sponsorship cards available from Recovery Haven. The event is limited to Over 18s only.
