THE issue of dog fouling on a popular Tralee walkway came up at the Tralee Municipal District meeting of councillors on Monday.
Labour Cllr Terry O’Brien asked that Kerry County Council come up with a plan to deal with dog fouling on the walk from the Marina apartments to Cockleshell.
In reply, Council said it is not considered to be a significant problem along this route as there are two bins and two dispensers in place. They said regular patrols of the area are also carried out the new Municipal District Enforcement Officer will carry out additional inspections.

They said there are plans to put an additional dog foul dispenser and bin at the Lock Gates and at the end of the new walkway at Cockleshell Road which should help alleviate problems that exist.
Cllr O’Brien disagreed that it wasn’t an issue on the walkway and said the situation was dangerous from a health point of view. He said the problem was that the owners, not the dogs and the situation has “gone beyond the joke”.
“It doesn’t matter how many dispensers are installed, there’s an element of people out there who don’t care,” said Cllr O’Brien.
He suggested that the Litter Wardens should stop people who are walking their dogs and if they don’t have the equipment to deal with dog fouling they should be fined.
• TraleeToday.ie travelled on the walkway on this Wednesday between noon and 1pm and saw little evidence of dog fouling. However, before and during the Christmas break, the walkway was littered with dog foul and the dispensers were overflowing at times.
I am sick.of this type of persicution of dog owners.
I walk my dog responsibly and am fed up to the back teeth of always having to stop my dog from trying to eat all sorts of human waste left in pavements and parks and beaches.
Everything from left over take away to vomit to used nappies.
Only when the humans start clwarimg up after themselves should they start persecuting us!!!
I say if you catch them don’t bother fining them – just make them eat it, yes I know a bit extreme. But, no more dog fouling LOL.
