A TRALEE Municipal District Councillor will call on Kerry County Council to engage with the GAA to enhance the exterior of Austin Stack Park.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Mikey Sheehy has a motion before the next Tralee MD meeting on Monday, that the two bodies meet to discuss the possibility of commissioning murals of famous Kerry GAA events on the walls of the stadium, to remind supporters of our illustrious past and brighten up the area.

It’s not the first time a councillor has suggested adorning the area with GAA tributes. Back in September 2016, former Sinn Féin Cllr Toireasa Ferris suggested an outdoor Kerry GAA museum on both the walls and in the triangular area of land opposite the stadium, but nothing came of her request.

Meanwhile, Fine Gael Cllr Jim Finucane also has a motion before next week’s Council meeting asking the local authority to draw up alternative plans for the existing Courthouse in Ashe Street, should the courts be relocated elsewhere in town.

Among his suggestions for using the building is a GAA museum, arts centre or a location for amateur drama groups.
