TRALEE CoderDoJo held a promotional/appreciation event at IT Tralee on Saturday, where 75 young people attended to learn new skills in technology.

Tralee CoderDoJo is a charitable and voluntary organisation that is currently administered by a volunteer committee group including parents and IT experts.

Tralee CDJ operates a free, fun and social space at the ITT North Campus facilities at Tralee where their Ninjas learn all about the magic regarding the technology that surrounds us in everyday life today.

Participants register and attend at the ITT on appointed Saturdays in four five week terms annually. Children within the ages of 7 to 17 join in different age groups.

“We have over 375 children registered on Moodle at Tralee CDJ with circa 75 active children per session attending in classes of circa 25 ninjas for four five week sessions annually. It could easily be 1,000 children the demand is so great,” said Seamus Fleming of Tralee CDJ.

“What CDJ teach is outside the present school curriculum. Participants have an incredible opportunity to gain a technological insight to HTML/CSS Coding, Robotics, Website Construction, Electronics and Circuit Boards as well as basic file management and how a PC actually works and much more. This knowledge is the foundation stone of the IT skills set that Businesses seek today. The children love it,” said Seamus.

“Tralee CDJ is tremendously oversubscribed each year and who knows, from Tralee CDJ, a budding Sean Ryan or Bill Gates may well emanate from among our local children to create a Silicon Valley business opportunity here in our own County of Kerry,” said Seamus.

Tralee CDJ wished to thank the student volunteers, Aspen Grove, Harvey Norman, SignCo, AIB Tralee and Kerry County Council for their support. Scroll down for photos…
