THE local branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) received a cheque for €3,500 on Wednesday thanks to a event held in town two weeks ago.

The inaugural ‘Automobili Italia Tralee’ car show was a huge success on the weekend of September 16/17, with cars and motorcycles filling the FBD Insurance/Peevers Slye Cotter car park on Dan Spring Road.

The Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis, Alfa Romeos, Lancias and Fiats drew great crowds and plans are already afoot to expand the event next year.

“All going well, we would like to incorporate more aspects of Italian culture in to the event, like music and food where we can liaise with local Italian restaurants,” said one of the organisers of the event, Mike Dowling.

Participants who brought the cars/bikes made a financial contribution to the IWA, while there were also volunteers from the IWA with buckets for donations.

The funds raised will now go towards a horticultural project for IWA service users in Listowel.
