THE Opus’96 Chamber Choir will hold a concert in St John’s Church Tralee on this Sunday, April 16 at 7pm.

The ‘From Byrd To Beethoven’ concert is in aid of the St John’s Parish Fund and Choir Director, Martina Ryan Murphy, explained why they chose the music for the performance.

“This year we’re celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the Renaissance composer William Byrd.  His contribution to writing music at that time is immense, and is being celebrated by choirs all over the world,” said Martina.

“His work that we will perform is his ‘Mass for Four Voices’ – a must-sing work for any choir. 2020 was the year in which we should have celebrated Bethoven’s 250th Anniversary, but COVID took care of that, so now we are delighted to perform some of his most beautiful pieces arranged for choir,” she said.

Special guests for the evening are Joel, Briana and Sheridan Reid. The accompanist is Bogumila Sokirko from Kenmare who is a highly accomplished pianist and teacher. Tickets are €15 available from St John’s Pastoral Centre and choir members.
