Further allocations will be made later this week by councillors in the Killarney, Listowel and South and West Kerry Municipal Districts when they meet to approve allocations in their respective areas.

Over 300 projects and initiatives countywide are set to benefit from Kerry County Council’s Community Support Fund this week as councillors allocate €750,000 in grants to community and voluntary groups, residents’ groups, Tidy Towns groups, Chamber Alliances and other organisations.

The Community Support Fund, now in its second year, has a very positive impact and has seen an increase of 50% on the number of applications received last year. The Fund – which was established on the proposal of councillors and which they have strongly supported from the outset – recognises the valuable contribution the community and voluntary sectors make to the overall wellbeing of the county and its people and the vital and beneficial work that the organisations do.

Niamh O’Sullivan, Head of the Community Department with Kerry County Council said: “Projects funded under the 2016 Fund will enhance the vibrancy and physical appearance of the county’s towns and villages; they will improve the quality of community services and the capacity of communities to address local needs. The grants will also support tourism growth and economic innovation with support being provided to projects that will benefit the local economy and generate a sense of community and civic pride,” said Niamh.
