KERRY County Council has begun the planning process for the development of trailhead facilities for the Listowel to Limerick Greenway at the former Neodata site in Listowel.

The project would see the development of fully accessible trailhead facilities at the site at Bridge Road, Listowel and would provide an attractive and functional amenity for those using the Greenway and Childers Park in Listowel.

This proposal has begun the Part 8 public consultation phase today, 24 April, with plans and designs for the new facility published in the Kerry County Council website. Submissions on the plans can be made by members of the public until 6 June 2024.

It is envisaged that the trailhead amenity will provide important infrastructure for people of all ages and abilities who enjoy walking, cycling, fishing, nature, and spending time outdoors.

The project is the first phase of the redevelopment of the strategic riverside locations as an ‘Outdoor Activity Hub’, with the aim of stimulating economic growth, job creation, increased tourism numbers, extension of the tourism season, visitor dwell time and broadening of the unique regional visitor experience and offering.

Kerry County Council is currently developing a masterplan for the remainder of the site. The masterplan will examine and propose the potential other uses of the full site as a possible location for other outdoor recreation and sporting facilities which will add to the existing offering of sporting facilities in the surrounding area, which already includes a pitch and putt course, tennis courts and playing fields.

The construction of the Trailhead Facilities is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) and Kerry County Council.

The design and development of the masterplan for the area is funded under the Department of Rural and Community Development under Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) and Kerry County Council.
