TRALEE Municipal District councillors have called on the Government find the €75m required to help sustain the Post Office network in Ireland.

Speaking at the Tralee Municipal District meeting on Monday, Cllr Norma Foley (FF) said all councillors supported the Postmasters in their campaign to maintain the excellent services they provide.

“Postmasters and Postmistresses are dying a death due to lack of support and funding. They’re not waving but drowning. We’re asking the Government to realise that funding [of €75m] on 11th of October in the budget,” said Cllr Foley.

Cllr Toireasa Ferris supported the motion and asked the media to highlight that the local postmasters were not scaremongering when stating they are in danger of dying out.

A meeting of the Kerry Postmasters in Tralee last Friday heard that many in the county have suffered huge losses in revenue and they asked local representatives to support their campaign to secure the future of local post offices.
