IF you are one of those people who have been delayed in traffic at peak times around the Ballygarry roundabout recently, you may have been wondering why two lanes on that roundabout has been reduced to one.

The company that built the Tralee bypass, BAM Construction, are carrying out remedial works to address an occasional flooding problem on the bypass between the N21 and N22 roundabouts.

Because the work is happening so close to a roundabout and because it is a dual carriageway, health and safety requires that the traffic be reduced to one lane, so as to not have two lanes of traffic coming off a roundabout merging quickly into one.

The flooding issue came into play during heavy rains in the past year which caused water to pool in one lane of the road. Work is taking place just off the road and under the level of the road between the two roundabouts. The works were expected to last between two to three weeks and are thought to be nearing completion now.
