A KERRY soccer hero is set to be honoured next Sunday when the Tralee Dynamos club organises ‘The Legends Game’ at 12 noon in Cahermoneen.

It’s all for Joe Flynn from Rahoonane, who has made the news recently for speaking so frankly, honestly and courageously about his battle against terminal cancer. Dynamos is inviting soccer players of all ages to ‘Kick It for Joe’ by calling up and lending their support, with the Kerry Cork Cancer Bus benefitting from any donations.

A press release from the club explained why they are holding the event.

“He has fought his diagnosis with all the strength, humour and courage he once displayed on the soccer fields of Kerry. Joe is well known and much loved from Callinafercy to Tralee and beyond from his days playing with Tralee Dynamos and also from his career as a sign writer,” it read.

“If you have a pair of boots then come along and take part or if you have not kicked a ball for a while borrow a pair! There is no limit on the number of players on each side and with roll on /roll off subs fitness will not be a concern!” read the release.

It’s set to be a busy for a few days for Joe and the Flynn family as his daughter Joanne will get married this Thursday.

Anyone wishing to help out on the day can contact Noel White on 083 1165199.
There will be a donation taken up at the game for the Kerry / Cork Cancer Bus.
