IF YOU’RE in need of a shoulder to cry on, it seems Eamonn is your man.
Waterford hurling manager, Derek McGrath, received a supportive phone call from the Kerry boss after the Deise lost by 21 points to Tipperary two weeks ago in the Munster Final.
“I got a lovely call from Eamonn Fitzmaurice,” Derek McGrath told the Irish Examiner in the lead up to this Sunday’s SHC quarter-final against Wexford.
“I’d be friendly with Eamonn from college. It was just a lovely call from him reinforcing his own beliefs and what he’s had to put up with down in Kerry, which is probably 100 times the scale of what happens in Waterford based on the expectancy in Kerry each year.”
“Things like that hearten you to keep going, to drive on and to realise that success doesn’t happen in a straight line, I suppose.”
It’s an interesting little nugget from the normally tight-lipped GAA fraternity. We wonder what exactly has Eamonn had to put with here in the Kingdom?
