THE time is fast approaching when judges arrive to consider if the town should be awarded the Purple Flag and the town’s businesses have really got behind the effort.

Receiving Purple Flag status is an internationally recognised endorsement of a town centre’s ambience between the hours of 5pm and 5am.

If successful in achieving the award, it will signify that Tralee has a night time economy that is enjoyable, entertaining, diverse and safe and it will be viewed as yet another attribute for doing business in Tralee.

All the night-time venue owners and their customers are urged to work together to make sure that the judges leave the town with a great impression and award the flag.

The Gardaí, Kerry County Council, vintners and other representatives of the hospitality sector have been involved in a comprehensive application process which is being led by Tralee Chamber Alliance.

The Judges will tour the area within a circuit from The Rose Hotel to Tralee Bay Wetlands to North Circular Road and back to Fels Point, covering pubs, hotels and restaurants, Siamsa Tíre Theatre, KDYS and Tralee Town Park.

The official Judges’ tour of Tralee’s Purple Flag area will take place from 5pm on Friday July 28 to 5am on Saturday, July 29, however, it is not known if they will make an unsupervised visit of the area before or after that window.

The decision on whether Tralee has succeeded in being awarded the Purple Flag will be announced in November of this year.

  1. Kerry County Council, vintners and other representatives of the hospitality sector all deserve credit.
However, the Gardaí being on this list is a bit of a joke!
When was the last time anyone as seen a Gardaí on patrol in the town centre or the Green on foot or bike especially between the hours of 5pm to 5am!
    LOL.
