Five Things To Do In Tralee And Beyond This Weekend

.

With glorious sunshine forecast all weekend, it’s a great opportunity to get out and about. Here’s some suggestions on what to do…

Saturday

1. Rev up for Deja Vu…

If you have any interest in cars, head down to The Mall from around 9am to see a collection of amazing motors for the Deja Vu event before they head out west.

This is one of the biggest motoring extravaganzas ever seen in Kerry and it’s a charity event in aid of Recovery Haven.

They include 30 Fords including an RS 200; 16 Porsches; 14 Minis; 11 Subarus; 7 Opels; 6 Toyotas; 5 Lancias, Renaults and Sunbeams; 4 Vauxhalls, BMWs and Audis; 3 Hillmans, Triumphs and VWs; 2 MGs, Jaguars, Fiats, Peugeots and Ferraris – yes a 308 and a fabulous F40; 1 Mitsubishi, Honda, Nissan, Saab and an Aston Martin!

2. Multiple match day…

Saturday is some day for sport! Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney will host the Kerry ladies against Cork in the Munster final at 12.15pm, followed by Kerry v Limerick in the Munster SFC final at 3pm. Advice is to get there early as traffic could be hectic from the Tralee side.

The pubs are in for a bumper day with Leinster v La Rochelle in the European Champions Cup at 5pm followed by the football with Liverpool v Real Madrid in the Champions League Final.

Sunday

3. Head to the Spa…

The ‘Donal Walsh Spa 6K Challenge’ returns and there’s a fantastic day in prospect for all the family.

There’ll be a fabulous market in operation and children from 6th class coordinating fun games and challenges for young and old all day.

There’s also a barbeque on site with teas and tasty treats also being served up as well, live music and Ronaldo Fanzini, King of Mayhem will host a lively show to entertain everyone.

However, the main event of the day will be the ‘Spa 6K Challenge’ a 6 km looped run/walk starting and finishing at the school. Donal’s parents Fionnbar and Elma will yet again officially start the run/walk at 11.30am. Everyone is welcome to come along and register from 10am on the morning.

5. Name that boat…

A legacy from a popular British actor has helped to fund Fenit RNLI’s new inshore lifeboat. The lifeboat is being named Lizzie in memory of Liz Frazer on Sunday at 3pm, in a ceremony at the Fenit Lifeboat Station with the public being invited to attend.

The lifeboat is being named by Jan Bolt, the station’s admin officer and wife to the late station mechanic Bob Bolt.

Music at the ceremony will be provided by Tralee Pipe Band, Oidreacht managed by Michelle O’Sullivan and the Fenit National School Choir.
