Tralee folk! It’s nearly the weekend again and this means that we will be filling your head with ideas as to what you can do. Ready, steady, go…

‘Into The Woods’ will play in Siamsa Tire from the March 12-14

1. For those of you out there that hold a fondness for fairy tales in your heart, then the new production set to light up Siamsa Tíre is one that you cannot afford to miss.

‘Into The Woods’ is a fairy-tale with a difference from the Light Opera Society of Tralee!

An ambivalent Cinderella, a blood-thirsty Little Red Riding Hood, a Prince Charming with a roving eye and witch who raps.

When a Baker and his Wife learn they’ve been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell.

Everyone’s wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results. A lively irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.

Tickets are pricing at between the €14/16 range and can be booked online. All the information can be found here.

2. Specsavers are preparing to host a family fun day and bake sale this Saturday, March 14 that will all be in aid of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin.

The event take place at the Specsavers store on Castle Street here in town starting from 12pm with lots of prizes to be won on the day. It’s certainly one not to be missed as it promises to be a great day out for everyone.

3. unnamedA local dance group here in town are looking to raise funds for a charity shop by organising a Zumbathon in Fels Point Hotel on Saturday.

Zumba Salsa Kerry hope to raise funds for the fantastic work being done in the ‘Inspired’ group here in town located above the now closed shop in the Square.

Family and friends are encouraged to pop down for the sure to be exciting event and are encouraged to bring a spare change of clothes (the more colourful the better) if they plan on getting into the Zumba spirit. There will be a raffle held on the night also with lots of amazing prizes to be won.

The entrance fee on the night will be €10 with all funds from the night going to ‘Inspired’

4. tralee marathonThe Tralee International Marathon takes place this Sunday, March 15 much to the delight of those who have trained long and hard over the past few months.

The Full Marathon will start at 9am outside Dunnes, North Circular Rd and finish at The Mall, while the Half Marathon will start at 10.15 am outside Garvey’s Car Park on the Matt Talbot Road and will also finish at the Mall.

After all the training that has been done, this is sure to be a lap of honour for the competitors.

5. Kerry_GAA_crestKerry are set to meet their opponents from last year’s All-Ireland Final this Sunday, as they face off against Donegal in Austin Stack Park here in Tralee.

With Kerry most likely still feeling the sting from their 11-point defeat to Cork, they will be looking to bounce back with a strong performance against the northern side.
