KERRY County Council has signed a contract for the construction of four new houses at Baile an Gharraí, Lixnaw which are to be constructed under the national Rebuilding Ireland programme at a cost of just over €500,000.

Kerry County Council has appointed Tim Scanlan Construction Ltd to construct the new units; the houses are two-storey, two-bedroom units which are due to be completed in December 2017.

The contract was signed at Áras an Chontae recently in the presence of the Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Michael O’Shea, the Chief Executive of Kerry County Council, Moira Murrell and the Leas-Cathaoirleach of the Listowel Municipal District, Cllr Mike Kennelly.

Cllr Kennelly welcomed the announcement of the new units:

“Kerry County Council is working to identify all opportunities to assist those on the housing waiting list at present and in a number of parts of the county, construction of housing units is underway once again.

“I look forward to the delivery of these houses in Lixnaw by the end of this year which will go some way to addressing the housing needs of those in the north Kerry area,” said Cllr Kennelly.
