It features four days of free concerts, céilís, music and singing sessions, workshops, and family fun, all of which is centred on the ancient harvest festival of Lughnasadh. The festival opens on August 4 with a special Lughnasadh parade and bonfire.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing Frankie Gavin and De Dannan to Féile Lughnasadh this year. Frankie and the band are the cream of the crop of Irish traditional music and bring with them with a reputation which has been rightly celebrated across the globe,” said the chairman of Milltown-Listry Comhaltas, Turlough O’Brien.

Speaking ahead of the concert performance in Milltown, Frankie Gavin said; “Myself and the band are really looking forward to our concert in Milltown on 5th August. I have a phenomenal team with me for the festival. We decided to get back on the road and perform after a long ‘rest’ as in recent times I had a health scare but happily survived all the treatments for oesophageal cancer.”

“Life is wonderful again and the music means more to me now than ever, I’d say. A new and different appreciation of our traditional music, or indeed, a new perspective altogether you might say,” said Frankie Gavin.

To help support the festival, Féile Lughnasadh has launched an online fundraising campaign on the I-Donate platform, and which can be accessed on the festival’s social media pages.

“All of the entertainment at the festival is entirely free of charge so we are asking everyone to make a contribution of whatever size, to help us meet our costs. Every euro will go directly towards supporting a community-based, volunteer-led festival which caters for all ages,” said branch secretary, Louise Wrenn.

Louise added; “We are delighted to be able to present a group like this to the people in a free, safe venue in the heart of Kerry. This will be a unique event.”

The festival will also feature kids’ events, outdoor ceilí, food markets and the annual parade, as well as the ever-popular singing club. The full programme of events which will be released shortly.
