THE Geraldine Experience in the Kerry County Museum is scary enough at the best of times but it’s about to get a whole lot more frightening in the run-up to Halloween!
The staff have transformed the cavernous medieval experience into a ‘Haunted Hall’ for the next few weeks and schoolchildren from all over the county are booked in to experience the sights and frights of ghouls, mummies and demons.
This is the second year the staff have put on this attraction, explained Sandra Leahy of Kerry County Museum.

“Last year, the school kids loved it. The place was crying out to be used for Halloween, I mean it’s scary enough as it is,” said Sandra.
“We had done things for Christmas before so we decided to change it around for Halloween,” said staff member, Eoin Quilter. “We kind of lost the run of ourselves and probably made it too scary!” joked Eoin.
The staff have created a morgue, a graveyard, there’s bats, hanging ghosts and the staff themselves will be making an appearance while the children walk around the darkened hall…looking like they do in the photo above!
Sandra said sometimes it gets a little too scary.
“Last year I wore this clown mask and a mother had to bring her child back in after two weeks of no sleep to convince him it was just me wearing a mask and it wasn’t real. I didn’t realise how freaked out some kids get about clowns.”
The attraction is only open to schools at the moment, but on October 25 to Halloween it will be open to the public.
The ‘Haunted Hall is €5 for an adult and its free for up to three children with the paying adult. After that it’s €1 extra per child.
It’s open from 10am to 5pm daily. Contact Kerry County Museum on 066-7127777.
