AN incident, where a tourist was revived after he suffered a cardiac arrest in the town centre, has prompted a fundraiser to supply more public defibrillators for Tralee.

Tralee Community Responders are raising money through a gofundme page to add more defibrillators to the town and a local businessman, Sean Lynch of Hogan’s Tralee, has made a donation of €2,000 to that end. He presented the cheque to Thomas White of the group on Monday evening.

The campaign was inspired after a German man aged in his 70s collapsed outside Dealz store in Abbey Court on August Bank Holiday Monday. Local women Audrey Moran and Mary Lynch were first on the scene and immediately fetched the defibrillator located on The Mall.

The device was used to revive the man before the ambulance arrived to take him to hospital. He has made a recovery and is now back in Munich. His family is still in contact with Audrey and they sent €250 towards the fundraiser this week.

Mary Lynch approached Sean Lynch of Hogan’s, who has made contributions to worthy causes in the past, to see if he would make a donation and she was overwhelmed at the generosity of his contribution.

Thomas White said there are two public defibrillators located in the town centre — one in The Mall and the other at Cara Credit Union. He said that there is a need for at least two more accessible defibrillators, hence the campaign.

It’s hoped to locate a new defibrillator on Denny Street near to the Town Park as soon as possible. The gofundme page can be accessed by clicking here.
