Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí in Moyderwell, Tralee will be hosting information sessions later this month.

GAELCHOLÁISTE Chiarraí in Moyderwell, Tralee will be hosting information sessions on enrolment for the 2016 school year in the school on Tuesday 20th October and Wednesday 21st October.

These sessions are open to students attending Gaelscoileanna and those attending English-medium schools along with their parents or guardians.

Deputy principal Mr Ruairí Ó Cinnéide said that these information sessions will give students and parents “an opportunity to visit the various classrooms and to see classes in action. Students will get to sample the atmosphere of the school, see what subjects and extracurricular activities are on offer for them, and there will be many examples of current students’ work and achievements on show. Parents will also have an opportunity to talk to students in the classrooms and to meet the subject teachers should they have any subject specific questions they might like to ask”.

After completing the classroom visits there will be a short presentation from the principal and deputy principal followed by a Q&A session with the parents.

Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí recently celebrated its 25 anniversary and it has been going from strength to strength since it was founded in 1989.

While the majority of the students attending come from the Gaelscoileanna in Tralee, Castleisland, Listowel and Killarney over the past few years the school has seen a steady increase in enrolment from English-medium primary schools.

Mr Austin Ó Seachnasaigh, principal of Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí said that “approximately one in every three students now attending is coming from non-Gaelscoileanna. The transition is not without its challenges but the main requirement we ask of students and parents coming from English-medium primary schools is that the student has a reasonable level of spoken and written Irish and that they are willing to put in the effort to reach the level required”.

As the information sessions have proven to be very popular in the past, and are particularly busy days in the school, there are three information sessions organised.

The first session for students from Gaelscoileanna, along with their parents, will take place on Tuesday 20th October and the second session for students from English medium schools and their parents is on Wednesday 21st October.

Each day’s session begins at 10:00am and will conclude around 12:30. There is also an evening session for parents only, on the Tuesday evening beginning at 7:00pm.
