THE generosity of the people of Tralee was definitely in evidence just before Christmas.

The children from Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn were carol singing outside Penney’s on the Wednesday, December 20, and in just under an hour they raised €566.

“We try to support charities around Christmas and this time we chose Pieta House. Apart from the fundraising, it’s important to raise awareness that this service is there for people who need help and for their families,” said Principal of Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn, Cáit Uí Chonchúir.

All at Pieta House in Tralee are grateful to Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn and the people who contributed on the day as it raises greater awareness of the services offered at their Moyderwell centre.

These now include bereavement counselling and there is now a 24 hour freephone number, 1800 247 247, so if the centre is closed, a person in need of help can call and talk to someone.

They also have a Suicide Bereavement Liaison Service where someone visit the home of the family of a person who died by suicide to help during for the first six to eight weeks. Con O’Connor and Kieran O’Brien of Pieta House were at the school on Monday to accept the cheque.
