Gala Concert Of Favourites In ‘Over The Rainbow – Voices For Hospice’

MEMBERS of Kerry Scotia Ensemble and the Kerry Concert Choir are busy rehearsing  for their concert “Over the Rainbow – Voices for Hospice”, which takes place on Sunday 23 April at 7pm in the Church of the Resurrection, Park Road, Killarney.

Directed by internationally acclaimed soprano, Dr Sharon Lyons, the concert is in aid of the Kerry Hospice Foundation and will bring together the talents from multiple Kerry performers for what promises to be a very special event for this wonderful charity. There will also be a raffle with some fantastic prizes to be won on the night.

Kerry Hospice Foundation is a voluntary organisation to help provide funding and support for palliative care services in Kerry. The mission of the Kerry Hospice Foundation is to help fund, in partnership with the HSE, the provision of Specialist Palliative Care Services which support patients who are living with an advancing illness In Kerry.

Kerry Concert Choir was set up under the direction of Sharon in 2022 and accompanied by Kerry Scotia Ensemble they will perform some beautiful songs arranged for choir and orchestra like Over the Rainbow, Homeward Bound, A Thousand Years, Dream a Little Dream of Me and many more.

Many of the arrangements for this concert were specially commissioned for the concert by Kerry Scotia Ensemble from Cork composer Richard Rudkins. Kerry Scotia Ensemble is Kerry’s only professional string orchestra and was set up in 2016 with the assistance of an Arts Act Grant from Kerry County Council.

The orchestra has received multiple awards of local and national grants and is a solid fixture of the classical music scene in Kerry having partnered with multiple performers across a range of genres over the years.

The Director of this concert, Dr Sharon Lyons, is an internationally renowned and award winning soprano has performed on national and international stages as both a soloist and ensemble member.

Performances also include appearances at the NCH, on national television, on many RTÉ religious affairs programmes, singing for Pope Francis, for state events such as the annual 1916 Remembrance Service and funeral of former President Patrick Hillery.
