Here’s How Many New Cars Were Sold In Kerry Last Month

THERE was a another big rise in new car sales in Kerry last month compared to May 2020, according to the latest statistics from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).

However, like April, this increase was due to the COVID pandemic and the lockdown in place in the country in May of last year.

There were 114 new car registrations in the county in May 2021 compared to just 15 in the same month last year, an increase of 660%.

In the five months of this year there have been 1,345 new car sales in Kerry while last year there were 1,168 in the same period, an increase of 15.15%.

So far this year, Toyota is the most popular make of car with 177 units sold, with the other Top 5 made up of Hyundai (166), Ford (160) and Volkswagen (159) and Skoda (145).

The Hyundai Tucson is the most popular model sold this year on 85 units, with Ford Focus (59), the Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Tiguan both on 53 and Kia Sportage making up the top five.

Diesel cars were the most popular engine type in 569 units with 405 petrol. Next is 208 petrol/electric vehicles sold, a rise of 46.48% on the same period in 2020, 59 electric (+97%), 55 diesel/electric (+1,275%) and 47 petrol/plug-in electric hybrid (+147%).
