Girls U12.
The girls made their exit from the County League last Tuesday evening to a well organised Dr Crokes team.
We had beaten them in an earlier round but they learned more from the defeat than we did from the victory and they ran out deserved winners on the night. As always with Dr Crokes, it was a very sporting game and we want to wish the team and mentors all the best in the Final next week.
We will have to dust ourselves down for the Tralee Town League Semi-final where we have been drawn against Na Gaeil – the time & date is to be advised but its expected to be played in the coming week.
The girls that played last week were as follows: Tara Field, Emma O Donnell, Caoimhe Leahy, Ciara Kerins, Elizabeth O Connor, Taylor Rogers, Eimear Murphy, Erica O Connor, Kerry Oba, Lauren Smullen, Katie Ross, Emily O Shea, Amy Kerins, Molly Brosnan, Lynda O Connor, Angel Quilligan, Dawn McLarnan, Simera Hunt and Paula Clifford.
Training is on from 6pm – 7pm on Tuesday evenings.
Under 16 Boys:
John Mitchels 4-9 , Spa Killarney 5-15 .
Our Under16s played their second round game in the County League last Wednesday at home v Spa. The team started off great scoring a great 1-3 without reply but then we fell apart and leaked scores until we got back on the scoreboard with scores from Alex O’Shea and Gavin O’Brien.
The second half was a lot better than the first half with some moments of incredible talent including a spectacular solo effort from Ryan Ward.
Our next round game is in three weeks away to Kilgarvan/Tuosist.
Training plan will be published next week.
U-14 BOYS:
We got back on track in the Castleisland District on Saturday with a good victory over Currow. From the first whistle we showed a lot more than we had previously against Castleisland and helped by the return of a few regulars we showed we are a lot better than that performance.
Helped by goals from Padraig White and Craig O Brien we went in at half time leading 4-6 to 2-1. We kicked on well in the second half and ran out comfortable winners 8-11 to 5-8.
Best on the night were David O Connor, Jordan Mason, Stephen Bowler and Tyreese Flaherty. Teams and scorers were Conor Fitzmaurice, Robert Kerins, Sean Tighe, David O Connor, Jordan Mason, Stephen Bowler, Ciaran O Leary, Padraig White (2-1),

U-12 BOYS:
Team 1 and 2 had their League Final on Tuesday eveving in the County League against Ballyduff with both Clubs undefeated going into the games so it was all to play for.
Team 2 had a tight first half with the score at half time Mitchels 1-4 to
Ballyduff 1-2 but the flood gates opened up for the home team with David O’Callaghan stepping up to the mark as team Captain driving on his team to win out on a scoreline of John Mitchels 3-13 to Ballyduff 1-2.
Best on the night were Darragh Curnane and Dean Farrell.
Team 1 were up against a tough Ballduff Team with Mitchels playing with the wind in the first half with Martin Laucher who had a good first half and Sean Dillane putting his head on the block going in for the so called dirty ball with Mitchels leading at half time 3-4 to Ballyduff 1-7.
In the Second half the away team came out with all guns blazing Ballyduff drew level with 10mins to go in the game with Sean Broderick in Goals for the Mitchels making 3 outstanding saves to deny the away team more goals on the night with the Mitchels in Big Trouble around the middle of the park.
Darragh McEvoy came out from full forward to tame the Ballyfuff boys with some outstanding catches in the final 5mins of the game with Jesssie Duggan coming up with the key goal in the game to secure the League Titles on a scoreline on John Mitchels 5-10 to Ballyduff 3-13.

County League Div. 3 Title 2015

Munster Junior Title 2012
Player Position: Right Corner Forward, Full Forward, Goal Keeper
(Q): How did you become involved with John Mitchel’s?
(A): “My husband Noel was involved as a Juvenile mentor and my son Robbie was a player with the U10 boys. Ann Eager and I approached Brid Mc Elligott, the then Chairperson with the idea of starting ladies Juvenile football. After agreement was reached with the club we starting training. This was in 2007. My Daughter Ciara also started as a Juvenile player the same year”.
(Q): What has been your greatest accomplishment as a Mitchel’s player?
(A): “I was Captain of our team when we won the Junior B Championship in 2014.
We played against Finuge in the final. They were strongly favoured to win. They also had a number of Inter-County players in their side. We put in a great team performance on the night and deserved to win.
I was also Captain of the ladies team when we won our first trophy. This was the novice championship and I scored 1-3 in that final. It is also a great accomplishment for me to see some of the ladies I helped train now playing Senior football”.
(Q): As captain what do you believe you brought to the team?
(A): “I brought experience and I got on really well with my team mates.
I was pretty good at controlling our back line and giving instruction. I always did my best to encourage and instil confidence in the players”.
(Q): What would you consider to be your best game as a Mitchel’s player?
(A): “I believe it was the match against Causeway in the league this season.
We all played very well on the night. They scored just one goal and I made a number of important saves. We were also promoted to Division 2 after winning the game”.
(Q): Which player/ person in the Mitchel’s club do you look up to or admire?
(A): “I admire Claire Connelly. She is a staunch Mitchel’s supporter.
Claire has done and continues to do a lot of good work for the club.
She is also a selector with the senior ladies team”.
(Q): What has been your greatest disappointment as a Mitchel’s player?
(A): “Having to retire from the game is disappointing and hard to take,
but you reach a certain stage when your legs can no longer do what your head wants to do.
You have to call it a day at that stage”.
(Q): What other sports are you involved in?
(A): “I am involved in cycling for a number of years.
At present I cycle with a group of twenty two women.
Our group go out on a cycle three times per week and cover about 200 kilometres.
We are currently training for the Ring of Kerry charity cycle”.
(Q): Tell me of your time playing with the Kerry junior ladies team?
(A): “I was selected on to the panel in 2012.
We went all the way to the Munster final and won the title against Tipperary.
Sadly we were defeated in the All-Ireland final to Dublin which was disappointing”.
(Q): What advice would you give to encourage more women to get involved with John Mitchel’s club?
(A): “John Mitchel’s is a fantastic club. It has a very friendly atmosphere.
It is very family orientated. There are lots of ways people can get involved not just football.
You will make some great friends and you are always made feel welcome”.
(Q): What are your thoughts on the present and future of the club?
(A): “At present we have one of the best facilities in the County.
We have great numbers at Juvenile level. Our senior teams are doing well.
The senior men have reached the semi-final of the Intermediate Championship.
Our senior ladies have won their County League title. We have great people working on behalf of the club. I would especially like to wish Pat, Joe and Claire and the Senior ladies the very best of luck for the future”.
