This will be our last competitive fixture of the 2022 season. Thanks to all the parents and guardians for bringing the girls to training each week. The spirit and moral within the team is really good and the girls are really looking forward to playing the replay.

Please bring water and gum shields.

U14 GIRLS

The John Mitchels u14 girls’ team had a tough challenge against a strong Na Gaeil team, in Ballyseedy on Thursday night under lights.

Missing a number of players, Mitchels still worked hard against a Na Gaeil featuring a number of Kerry players.

And despite a strong performance, their strong defense was able to shut down the Mitchels attack.

Defensively the Mitchels defence worked hard throughout under sustained pressure during the game.

The team has 2 games left in the season, both finals, and will be looking to finish the season on a high.  Training takes place on Tuesday with fixtures to be sent to parents early in the week.

U16 GIRLS

Tuesday evening saw John Mitchels u16s ladies take on Castlegregory under lights in Tralee for their final group match in North Kerry league Div 4.

Weather for the match was against both teams, as the girls had to battle against heavy rain and strong winds for the full duration of the game. In spite of the terrible conditions, the two teams played a great game and there were some great scores created and taken on both sides.

The home side got off to a great start, scoring a goal early in the first half.

However, the travelling team had the majority of possession and were more accurate in front of goal overall, kicking 9 points from play and scoring two goals.

The home side showed great resilience against a strong forward line and worked really hard in midfield to try to retain possession when possible and added a couple of well taken points to their tally.

But Castlegregory proved too strong for Mitchels on the night, taking the win with a score line of 1-02 to 2-09.

Best of luck to John Mitchels u16 ladies when they play in the NKL Div 4 plate final in the coming weeks. Date and venue for this final is yet to be confirmed.

Our U13Bs played their last match of the group phases of Division 3 of the Town League on Sunday evening against Ardfert.

UNDER 13 BOYS

Our U13Bs played their last match of the group phases of Division 3 of the Town League on Sunday evening.

It was a winner takes all clash against Ardfert to decide who would make the final of the competition.

Ardfert started well with an early goal and playing with the aid of a strong wind were good value for a 4-point lead at half time, with our lads kicking some nice points to stay in touch.

The visitors struck early for a green flag again in the 2nd half, but our lads didn’t panic and picked off some nice points to give us some momentum to get back into the game.

Out first goal followed, and it was definitely game on. Ardfert fought back but some great defensive work kept them at bay. At the other end our forwards were really rolling now, and another two goals followed to seal the deal.

In challenging conditions both teams put on a display of football and all credit to both teams for serving up such an exciting and skillful game. We now face Na Gaeil in the final – venue and date to be confirmed.

FINAL SCORE
John Mitchels B 3-11
Ardfert B 2-6

Training also to be confirmed once we get word on the final

UNDER 15 BOYS

On Sunday we played Churchill in the central league final in a very wet Na Gaeil pitch.

At half time we trailed by 2pts in very tough conditions, in the second half a few decisions didn’t go our way, but we played and fought hard for every ball.

The final score was Churchill 2-10 Mitchels 1-09 great team performance on the day.

After the game James O Dowd treated the team to a bit of food in Gallys so big thanks to James.

It is much appreciated. That brings our season to an end, a big thanks to all the players for their efforts during the year unfortunately no silverware but huge improvement football wise. We look forward to getting stuck in and preparing for next season.
