Senior Men

Our senior men faced Ballydonoghue away on Saturday evening at 7pm. Ballydonoghue got the score board going 1.28mins in from play followed a minute later with Mitchels first score coming from James Duggan with a free.

There was a couple of wide’s from play on both sides, but Mitchels scored some fabulous points from play by Cian Holden and James Duggan.

Defense held strong as it took Ballydonoghue to score again 10 mins in with a free. Both teams receiving a yellow card in the first half but there was only one point in it by the half time whistle. Mitchels were outscored at the start of the second half with 3 points and a goal within the first 10 mins.

Mitchels spent the next 10 minutes chasing the game but got back scoring again in the 20th minute of the second half with another excellent score from James Duggan. Unfortunately, due to too many wide Mitchels had run out of time but put up a great battle.

Final Score John Mitchels 0-11 Ballydonoghue 1-12

Senior Men Development League.

Senior Ladies
Donal Curtin Cup Round 3.

John Mitchells travelled to Abbeydorney last Sunday to play their third-round game in the Donal Curtin Cup.  On a beautiful sunny morning the home side started in blitzkrieg fashion with a couple of early goals and a few points.

Points from Lily Parker and Aoife O Brien helped John Mitchells to steady the ship and with Sarah Kilgallen and Simi Ogubesa getting on top in midfield they reduced the leeway with further points from Ava Buckley and another from Lily Parker.

Abbeydorney added a few more scores but great work by goalkeeper Emma Lynch and Emma Carmody and Julie Foley in the full back line helped to relieve the pressure.

John Mitchells playing into a stiffish breeze in the second made a few changes and the introduction of Tanya O Connor seemed to organize the side whose half back line of Lucy O Donoghue, Shannon Martin and Clara O Dowd began to push the Abbeydorney side on the defensive.

Aoife O’ Brien added 2 quickfire points as did Ava Buckley and Emelia Brusnik was then fouled following a great solo run to allow the accurate Diana O’Keeffe to reduce the arrears still further with a pointed free.

Mitchels kept on the offensive and were again rewarded when Diana O’Keefe was fouled, and Lily Parker scored a point from the resulting free.  Abbeydorney kicked a few late scores to run out worthy winners in the end.

Plenty positives to be taken from the game from the John Mitchells point of view and we will now move on to round 4 of the competition where we look forward to a trip away to Southern Gaels in a fortnight’s time.

Training continues on Thursday night at 7.15, can as many players as possible attend training and as always new members are always welcome.

Under 11 boys
This week our U11 boys were away to Laune Rangers. The game was played in great spirit by both sides and produced some of best football of the year. Both sides had their purple patches but when we put our minds to moving the ball fast, we got plenty of scores. Thanks to Laune Rangers for hosting us and next week will be last game in Phase One of the County Leauge at home to Rathmore.

Under 13 Boys

The U13 Gold team fell to a strong Stacks team, this was our first defeat in the Championship for the boys, Stacks took an early lead with some excellent shooting, but their defense was well on top also and kept us scoreless for most of the first half. We rallied well in the second half and got close, but Stacks pulled away at the death. Final score of 3:07 to 3:14 in Stacks favor.

The U13 Green team were a pleasure to watch as the shackles came off, some excellent points were taken and two superb goals early on by Liam Corkery which saw us leading by 6 at the half.

Stacks came out strong in the second half and got within 3 points, but the lads turned it on again late on and pulled away with Ronan, Eddie, Calvin and co tapping over scores. Final score line of 3:14 to 2:07 in Mitchels favor.

Under 15 Boys

On Wednesday evening last we made the short trip to Killeen to face a strong Na Gaeil side in what proved to be a very tough test for us.

Having already qualified for the semifinal the result was irrelevant, which ment everyone got a run out on the night.  School football, and other commitments gave everyone valuable minutes on the field losing out on a final score of Na Gaeil 3-11 John Mitchels 0-08pts.

We will continue to train next week evenings and times to be confirmed. Parents will be notified through whatts app. With the Feile qualifier fast approaching we will need everyone at training. We would like to wish Calvin O’Sullivan a speedy recovery from a recent injury he picked up with the u13s it will give him a very well-earned rest and hopefully come back stronger.
