Senior Men

Mitchels 2-13
Listry 0-9

Lovely afternoon for a game as our senior men came away with a deserved victory in a sometimes-feisty affair against a teak tough opposition.

Our quick attacking football caused all sorts of problems for the Listry defence with Conor Hurley cracking in a great goal after a brilliant run from half back and with barely five minutes gone, we were 1-2 to 0-0 and full value for it.

Our lines of running were superb in particular James Duggan and Mikey Kelliher making great runs and scoring from them and with Alan Donoghue pulling the strings at half forward it kept the opposition on their toes.

George Bastible covering some good ground with a workmanlike performance and Shane Connor making a couple of bursts from defence was unlucky not to score from the subsequent attacks. However, we deservedly went in to lead at half time 1-7 to 0-5.

The second half started in the same vein with quick ball from defence through the lines and into our forwards who stretched the Listry defence and created some good scoring opportunities for our forwards.

Cian Holden ran all day and got his reward with a lovely long-range effort and it was he who ably assisted for our second goal as he rounded his man and hand passed across the goal to Mikey Kelliher who buried to the net putting the game beyond the reach of our opponents.

Great to see the young guns Tyrese Flaherty, Rory Clifford and Brian O Donnell coming on in the second half with Brian winning some great ball in defence and ensuring every pass was inch perfect to his team mates.

Our defence was immense again in the second half with some great turnover ball especially the Whyte brothers making some brilliant tackles and Akeem Molloy driving out at every opportunity to put Listry on the back foot.

Pat Kearney also caught a couple of kick outs with Peter Murphy the same ensuring we kept possession from the opposition and minimized their ability to attack.
Well done to Mentors and squad – well take two points away from home any day.

Senior Men Development League.

Our senior development team will play Dingle at home on May 28th. Time to be confirmed. Stay tuned for more information.

Training continues this Thursday at 7.15 in preparation for our next game in the Donal Curtin Cup which will be a home game v an Annascaul/Castlegregory combination.  The fixture is currently pencilled in for Sunday the 28th of May.

We welcomed a couple of our injured personnel back at last week’s training and have still a few players waiting to return to competitive action.

As always, new players are welcome to join where they will be made very welcome and hopefully will make new friends and improve both their fitness levels and football skills.  A quick reminder for any player that is unable to attend either training or games to simply please notify us by a quick simple message.

Under 6 s boys and girls

Catch the coach,  dodgeball and stuck in the mud were the games of the day Sunday morning.
All the boys and girls tried their hearts out, and accordingly we ended the session with tired young players and exhausted coaches.
We had great fun and it’s brilliant to see the improvement in the solo and kicking.
Training continues next Sunday morning at 11am in our Ballyseedy complex.
As always new members are always welcome.  Just turn up and we will get you started
On Sunday May 21st at 11am you are invited to meet with the members of the John Mitchels Club Officerhip team for a chat and some light refreshments

We finished the session with some small sided go games.  Everyone was exhausted by the end of training but some great fun was had along the way.

Under 8 and 10 Girls

Our u8 & u10 girls had a smaller than normal turnout for Sunday morning training after Communions on Saturday . A quick warmup followed by kicking, tackling and soloing drills, and a short game. Congratulations to all the girls on their communions and we hope they had a fantastic weekend.
We are looking forward to next Sunday morning’s training at 10:30am sharp. New players always welcome

Under 12 Girls

On Wednesday evening, the girls welcomed Dingle for the div 4 North Kerry Ladies League Shield Final. Captained by Natalia Henning. Our girls put up an amazing display of football and teamwork was incredible. Unfortunately, it was not our night but the girls should be extremely proud of themselves. Training continues Sunday 12-1 & Wednesday 7-8 . New comers welcome

u14 Girls who played away to Shannonside Tarbert on Thursday evening.

Under 14 Girls

Shannonside Tarbert 2-5John Mitchels 1-1

John Mitchels u14 gold team made the long trip to Tarbert on Thursday evening, but it wasn’t to be against a strong North Kerry side who made home advantage count.
Despite strong performances from the team, particularly Faye Moloney, Katelyn Laide, Dionne Rogers and Tara Dowling, Mitchels didn’t have the same scoring threat as Tarbert.
Training continues this week as the Green team prepare for their Co League Final.

Under 16 girls

The U16 Girls were in action V Na Gaeil away in the County League on Monday last.
Na Gaeil was no doubt going to provide a hard-fought Game for the Girls. Both sides started strongly with our back line under a great deal of pressure keeping Na Gaeil from excelling on the scoreboard.

The girls dispossessed at crucial times with a great save from our Goalie Grace O’Regan. Ava Sugrue having a stand out performance organizing the backs and pushing hard on the defence to get some hard-earned turnovers. Our back line held up under some serious pressure in the first half carrying great football into midfield were our forwards capitalized with scores coming from Kerri Falvey & Ellie O’Rahilly.

At half time we drew 1-03 to 0-06. Making two sub changes before the half. The girls went back out in second half with the wind in our favour. Initially the girls were struggling to retain kickout possession after some organizing, they kicked off 5 minutes later finding our feet with Bridget Stewart working immensely in midfield soaking up the possession and feeding some fabulous football into the forwards.

A well taken free by Brid O’Shea put us in front. Na Gaeil fought back and got scores on the board this was set to be a tight game for John Mitchels girls. They fought hard bringing on subs who did brilliant work and got on the ball from the get go.
Scores from Megan Noonan & Lisa O’Shea narrowed the gap. The last blow of the whistle 2-08 to 0-11. The girls got their first win in the County League. Well done to all players and coaches.

u9 boy who travelled to stacks on a fabulous Sunday morning for go games. Well done to both teams’ excellent football on display.

Under 9 boys

John Mitchels U9 Boys were away to Austin Stacks on Sunday morning for some non-competitive Go Games & despite being down in numbers due to Communion Mass’s our lads gave a great account of themselves with some fantastic footballing skills coming from both sides. We done to all involved & huge thanks to Austin Stacks for organising a great morning’s football.

Under 11 boys

The u 11 boys had no game this week so we trained Thursday and Sunday. On Thursday’s session we had a full in-house game to mirror our regular matches. It was fierce competitive and it was great to see everyone getting stuck in. Our Sunday session revolved around fitness and the core skills of the game. Hopefully within the next few weeks we will be back in action in our Phase 2 of our County Go Games.

u13 boys’ gold team who played against Na Gaeil on Sunday evening. Well done on the victory boys.

Under 13 Boys

The U13 Gold team won with the help of some great scoring and great defending. Our Keeper Rian Moynihan was imperious and held Na gael to a solitary 1:01 in the first half, we battled into a 7-point lead in the second but credit to the men from Kileen who fought back to within a point after we made some changes. A final score of 2:08 to 2:07 was the result.

u13 boys’ green team who played against Na Gaeil on Sunday evening. Well done boys on your victory.

The Green team took on Na Gael, a team who are in fine form, and off the back of some good results, one of which included a win against ourselves in phase 1.

We came in at the break all square at 6 points apiece but the men from Mitchels turned up the temperature and Na Gael weren’t able to answer the questions. We ran out comprehensive winners with too many excellent performances to mention anyone in particular.

Na Gael fought hard for the entirety of the game but our lads never took a step back and claimed a 12-point win on a scoreline of 3:11 to 0:08points.

Under 15 Boys

On Wednesday evening last the boys played Firies  at home in the league semi-final. the boys found it tough to get going from the outset and ended up losing out by a point in the end. Very disappointing for all involved but there will be better days ahead. The gold team have their league semi-final fixture against Listowel on Monday the 15th in Ballyseedy all support greatly appreciated.

Minors
The minors played their 2nd game Monday evening against a strong Desmond’s side. At half time the boys were up by a few points and playing well the second half was tough going as Desmond’s stepped up the game and finished very strong . Winning by a good margin . The boys are playing  Castlegregory away on Thursday 18th at 7pm sharp.
