Kerins O’Rahillys GAA Club News

Seniors:
Saturday next 1st September sees us in first round action in the senior county championship when we take on North Kerry divisional side Feale Rangers in Listowel where throw in is @ 17.30.

When we last met in 2016 we had six points to spare on a final score line of 3-11 to 1-11 in a game which we never looked like losing  but found it hard to put to bed until a David Moran goal sealed the issue – both Barry John Keane and Jack Savage notched five points apiece that day and we will need more of the same from the aforementioned if we are to be successful on Sat. Best of luck to team and management.

Molyneaux Cup:

The opening round of the Molyneaux Cup saw us take on Beaufort on Friday night last ( 24th) in Beaufort. We had a whirlwind start to the game with the opening five points inside the first 10 minutes with Gearóid Savage firing over 4 of them all from frees and livewire wing forward Gearóid Dillane getting the other – Beaufort however grew into the game and had the deficit reduced to two points on 24 minutes, 0-06 to 0-04 when they had the first of the game’s goals and they led at half time, 1-06 to 0-08.

In the second half we were fastest out of the blocks and a Gearóid Dillane goal on 9 minutes had us in the driving seat – from here to the finish we maintained a slender lead which we preserved following a good save by Killian Moran from a penalty but Beaufort continued to press and were rewarded at the death with a goal, 1-12 to 2-09 and extra time was required.

Despite Beaufort getting the opening score in the first minute a goal from Kevin Johnston Horgan was the decisive score and we finished well to win on a final score line of : Kerins O’Rahillys 2-16, Beafort 2-11.

We await the draw for the semi finals with Gneeveguilla, John Mitchels and Dr Crokes all possible opponents  – the semi final will take place on Friday next 31st.

Team: Killian Moran, Gavin Ryan, Thomas McGrath, Aidan Mangan, Rory O’Connor, Rory Molloy, Donagh O’Brien ( 0-01), Tom Hoare, Gearóid Hartnett, Gearóid Dillane ( 1-01), Padraig Griffin, Brian Scannell,  Gearóid Savage ( 0-10, 6fs), John Keane ( 0-04), Kevin Johnston Horgan ( 1-0).

Subs: Kieran Mangan, Shane Foley, Thomas Houston.

Barrett Cup:

Unfortunately we were unable to field a team vs Desmonds on Friday night last and had to concede the fixture.

Congratulations to senior player Shane McElligott who won a county senior hurling championship medal with Lixnaw on Sunday – Shane played at wing forward and worked tirelessly throughout capping off a fine display with a late point – well done Shane!

Academy:
A big gathering again on Sunday morning in Healy Park with the parents, boys and girls all enjoying the activities and the fresh air. Again, the coaches were busy with plenty of advice on offer and the participants taking it all in!

U-11s:
The U-11s will take part in the Jerry Foley tournament next Saturday ( 1st Sept) in Firies – best of luck to the boys.

U-12s:
Both A & B teams were in action last Monday night in Healy Park when Ardfert were the visitors.

The A match was a great contest from start to finish with both teams playing to the best of their abilities – in the end, it was us who came out on top, 5-13 to 5-11 for a deserved victory.

The B team were on top for much of the game and won well, 5-09 to 3-04 – well done to the lads who are improving with each game.

The next outing for both teams sees them travel across town to Ballyseede on Monday night 27th when they take on John Mitchels.

U-14s:
The Central Region final took place last Wednesday night in Ballymacelligott and it was the boys from the Laune who took the spoils after a great game.

Laune Rangers started the better and were soon 4 points to the good but we came back strongly with little to choose  between the sides with us trailing at half time but all to play for in the second half.

The Killorglin side tacked on a goal and point immediately after the restart but the boys kept up the fight and battled to the finish, losing on a final score line of 3-13 to 2-10.

U12 GIRLS
There was a great buzz in Healy Park, Ballyrickard last Saturday as we hosted 36 teams from 23 clubs in an U12 MLGFA blitz. Games commenced shortly after 11a.m. and we were blessed with glorious sunshine. We had over 400 girls participate in the ‘FUN ‘ blitz. We had teams from Cork, Clare and Limerick join us as well as many teams from our own county.
It was a proud day for our club and members to have been given this opportunity by the MLGFA to host such a big event for U12 girls in our province. Thank you to Kate and Dave from the MLGFA, the visiting clubs, their mentors and families, our girls, mentors and parents, our referees, our shop assistants, our groundsmen, our car park stewards, our photographers and everyone who helped out to make our day a success.

U12 AND U14 GIRLS DAY OUT
Last Wednesday we headed out to Castlegregory for a day out before the girls head back to school. The girls had a great day surfing, kayaking  and were also trampolining and were out in pedal boats too. The sea air gave them an appetite and they had something from the local takeaway before heading home. Thanks to Claire, Katie and Con for helping out.
