Senior Football

Credit Union Senior Co League Division 1 Round 1

Kerins O’Rahillys 0-14

Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-12

We got off to a great start to the Co. League with a deserved win over Mid Kerry side Glenbeigh/Glencar played at the Glenbeigh pitch in ideal conditions.

A Man of the Match display by Jack Savage who gave an outstanding display kicking 8 points from frees and play, gave Kerins O’Rahillys the edge to win this highly competitive game.

It was Glenbeigh/Glencar who opened the scoring with a well taken point. Jack Savage had our first point from a free in the 4th minute.

Both sides traded points for the next 15 minutes with Kerins O’Rahillys putting over the bar from Jack Savage, Greg O’Connell, Kieran O’Mahony and Barry John Keane leaving the sides level at 5 points each at the 18th minute.

We had two chances of goals at this juncture but the final shot was blocked by a good G/G defence. With Garry Kissane solid in goals and with great kick outs which John C O’Connor dominated midfield along with David Moran we hit a purple patch and points by David Moran 45 and 3 well taken points by Jack Savage left us ahead by Kerins O’Rahillys 0-09 to Glenbeigh/Glencars 0-06 at half time.

Though we had 3 further points from Jack Savage (2) and another from Tommy Walsh leaving us ahead by 12 points to G/G 0-09, Glenbeigh/Glencar hit back and the sides were level at 12 points a piece at the 47th minute.

We lost Cormac Coffey to a second yellow but with the introduction of David McLoughlin, Cian Sayers and Kevin Walshe mid field who won great possession under pressure we stood firm and two final points by Jack Savage and David Moran gave us a deserved victory.

Danny O’Sullivan, Ross O’Callaghan, Shane Brosnan and Andrew Thompson did well in the backs with Greg O’Connell, John Ferguson, Kieran O’Mahony, Barry John Keane, Tommy Walsh and Man of the Match Jack Savage were best up front.

Next game is the 2nd round of the Co League. This game is on Saturday next the 26th at 5pm at home to Legion in Strand Road.
