Senior:

Our Tralee town board league vs Ardfert was postponed this week due to a bereavement in the Ardfert club. We will be at home next weekend to St Pats in the 3rd round of the competition.

The draws for the club championships took place during the week and we have been drawn in a group with Listowel Emmets, Kilcummin and Laune Rangers. The first game will be against Laune Rangers, who coincidentally will be our first round opponents in the county league.

It’s a tough draw containing 3 division 1 clubs – as in former years, two teams will qualify from each group to progress to the quarter finals. The games are scheduled for August.

Hogan Cup:

Mercy Mounthawk will be opposed by Naas CBS this coming Saturday Feb 24th when they face off in the All Ireland semi final – the game is fixed for Bansha, Co Tipperary ( home to Galtee Rovers) where throw-in is slated for 2 pm. We would like to wish our players, Tomás, Jake, Breandán & Odhran all the best in their quest for a final spot.

Juvenile Academy:

Kerins O’Rahillys 2024 Juvenile Academy got off to a fantastic start Sunday afternoon.

There was a great atmosphere around MTU as everyone returned for the 2024 season. With over 120 children in attendance the session ran very smoothly and everyone from children to coaches were full of enthusiasm and energy.

Everyone had great fun and left with a smile on their face. Huge thanks to our Committee and coaches for all the planning and ensuring everything ran so smoothly.

Thank you to MTU Sports Academy for the use of the halls. We look forward to welcoming everyone back and welcoming new faces also next Sunday 25th February at 12pm in the MTU Sports Academy.

New members are always welcome to join our Club, so please come along and try it out.

Bring a friend:

We are running a little initiative where everyone that brings a friend who is a new member to the  Academy will be entered into a draw for themselves and their friend for a full Kerins O’Rahillys Kit and Football. Keep an eye on our social media for more info.

Clubzap:

It is vital that all members download clubzap and add Kerins O’Rahillys to their account. Clubzap will be used for all communication regarding each age group from U5s upwards.

If you are having any difficulty with joining clubzap please ask one of our committee members on Sunday mornings to assist you and we will be happy to help or contact us through any of our social media outlets.

We would also like to wish our new Juvenile Chairperson John O’Connor all the best in his role for the year ahead.

Minors:

On Saturday evening we kicked off our county league campaign with an away trip to Firies.

We started the game brightly, opening the scoring with a sweeping move involving Breandàn Meehan and Aaron Horgan to free up Brayden Pierce who made no mistake from 25 yards out.

Ryan Oneykwere was alive to a shot dropping short to gather and double our lead in the opening quarter. The game was attack for attack but our full back line of Sean O’Mahony, Daniel Aneke and Cillian McGrath were defending tenaciously.

While the pitch was in great condition, this is still February football and we found it difficult to tack on a few more scores missing some gilt edge chances and Firies came back into the game with 2 frees from Liam Harmon.

Nick Lacey gave us the lead again and Darragh Murphy pushed us further ahead before Harmon nailed a 45 and scored an excellent free to leave the sides level at the break, 4 points apiece.

The second half opened similarly to the first with both sides  trading scores.

Nick Lacey pushed us ahead with a free on the edge of the D before Firies started to take over in midfield and rattled off 3 points in a row.

Firies got the first goal of the game and now they were well in control and running at us from all angles.

Nick reduced the deficit with a magnificent free from 30 yards out on the sideline but Firies were in full control and scored a second goal to put the game out of reach.

Breandàn continued to battle and drive us forward and search for a goal to bring us back into it but again we were wasteful in front of goal. Aaron Horgan tacked on the final point but a strong Firies side ran out winners on a scoreline of 2-10 to 0-8.

Man of the Match:

Sean O’Mahony

Recently moved, not played for a while or gave up playing!!! Well here’s your chance , contact Shirley on (086) 8713552 for more information on the various age groups. No prior experience necessary and everyone is welcome!

U12 GIRLS

The North Kerry Board will be organising U12 Go Games for clubs in North Kerry. These should be starting in the coming weeks.

LGFA Rule 297 … At U12 level, competitions may be organised in a league format, with no championships, on the basis that participating teams should be a maximum of 13 a side. Only children whose 10th, 11th or 12th birthday is on or after January 1st can play at U12 age grades in that calendar year.

Games should be organised over four quarters and provision should be made for all members of the team panel to participate in a minimum of one quarter.

Messages will be sent out on club zap.

U14 GIRLS

We’re awaiting final confirmation on groupings for the Co. League. This will be the first competition for these young ladies. The Co. League will start after Easter.

The coaches are looking forward to seeing everyone at training again next Saturday.

U16 GIRLS

Another good week for KOR U16 girls;  we were back in CBS Astro on Tuesday night battling the bad weather where we were again working on ball handling, ball retention and making sure the basics are right, also working on our fitness with plenty of high tempo drills.

Friday was back to the KOR gym and again numbers are growing as our gym work is the favourite training of the week. We focus a lot on core strength, stability and strength and conditioning work.

On Sunday we had Ballyrickard to ourselves. It was a great feeling to put on our football boots and get back to grass. We started with a few small sprints and a ball handling drill. Overall, another great week –  numbers were good and rising every week.

Huge well done to Saoirse and Aoibhinn who are on the U16 Kerry Ladies Team who won in their league game at the weekend against Tipperary. So come the end of this month we will be raring to get our north Kerry league off to a great start.

MINORS

The Co. League will commence after Easter. Groupings are being confirmed at present by the Co. Board.

Our minor management will be in contact shortly.
