Kerins O’Rahillys GAA Club News

Though still in January it certainly has been a very busy and hectic week of activity here in Strand Road.

Over the past week, various groups of people have been working tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of our 10k and 5k fun run, others have been fully immersed in the Last Man Standing fundraiser whilst our new chairman ( Oliver Molloy) and his committee have been meeting to plan for the year ahead, both  on an off the pitch.

10k run:

The ever popular 10K & 5k fun run took place on Sunday and despite the inclement weather there was a very strong turnout with in excess of 300 people participating.

To host such an event takes a lot of planning, organization and hard work and we are indebted to the likes of Frank O’Connor ( Tiler), Caitriona O’Sullivan and Tony Corridon for their efforts in  ensuring the race runs as smoothly as possible.

The race is now a permanent fixture on the calendar for 10k runners with people coming from Limerick, Tipperary and Cork to take part.

Kerry Cancer Support Services were a worthy beneficiary this year.

For the record, Oisin Spillane was the first man home with Margaret Foley being the first woman to pass the line.

Team prizes went to the mens team of Diomac and the womens compilation from Gneegeguilla.

Last Man Standing:

The LMS fundraiser closed on Saturday afternoon in advance of the opening rounds of the national league and once again it has proven to be a major success.

The initiative, driven by our former bainisteoir John O’Connor and supported by the Finance and Development committee, raised a significant sum to cover the senior team’s costs for the coming year and it was great to see the passion and commitment of the team as they sold cards for the past two weeks.

The losses incurred by both Kerry & Dublin on Saturday evening mean many participants fell at the first hurdle but many more will be still standing as we head to week 2 next week.

Our thanks to Tom Hoare for his technological expertise in collating the entries – weekly updates will be available on our Facebook pages as the weeks progress.

Lotto:

The lotto jackpot is now €10,700 with great interest weekly in this massive prize. We have to go back to the summer of ‘22 for the last winner and despite many match 3s,  a winning ticket remains elusive.

Remember, every ticket purchased not only gives you a chance to win but also supports our club’s activities and initiatives. We thank you for your continued support and participation.

Tickets available at the Klub, Betty’s Bar, Rock St PO and Jimmy’s – we have seen a huge surge in our online entries with participants able to play from the comfort of their own home – you can play too by logging on the following link:
