Championship Playoff

Kerins O Rahillys 0-12 Kilcummin 0-7.

This game played in wet conditions in Castleisland was a real battle and played at real championship tempo with no quarter asked or given.

Though we dominated at times possession was at a premium and scores were hard to come by with both sides fully committed to the cause. Kilcummin had the opening score after a minute a point from play.

We replied with a pointed free from Barry John Keane. Further points by Jack Savage, Tom Begley, and Greg O’Connell had us ahead by 0-4 to Kilcummin’s 0-1 at the 17th minute.

We had a good chance of a goal at the 18th minute but Kilcummin defended well. Jack Savage made it 0-5 to 0-2 points at the 27th minute but Kilcummin ended the half with a flourish to leave the half time score at Kerins O’Rahillys 0-5 to Kilcummin’s 0-4.

Tommy Begley had a great first half and along with Cormac Coffey put a lot of pressure on the Kilcummin’s defence with great runs up the field.

With David Moran and Kevin Walshe winning good possession at mid field we had points from Tommy Begley, Jack Savage, and David Moran to put us ahead by 0-8 to Kilcummin’s 0-6 at the 48th minute.

The introduction of John O’Connor was a big boost to the team with the experienced O’Connor getting valuable possession and linking up well with mid field. Further points by Jack Savage, Cormac Coffey and a final point by Barry John Keane sealed the issue and ensuring senior championship status for 2015.

In Cormac Coffey Strand Road had a Man of the Match performance scoring a great point winning great ball and exceptional runs out of defence.

He was followed by Tommy Begley who put over two valuable points and played his heart out.

It was a team performance with John Ferguson, Giles O Grady, Greg O’Connell and Ross O’Callaghan impressive. This game doubled up for a recent Co. League fixture.

The Seniors are down to play John Mitchels in The Senior Town Championship on Sunday the 26th at 12.30 in Strand Road. This is subject to change. Keep an eye on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
