THE Kerry College Assistant Principal has won a national award for her work on Universal Design at the John Kelly Awards announced yesterday.
Celia O’Shea said it was a great honour to have won the John Kelly Award for the Further Education and Training Sector this year.
“The standard from all of the other applicants was very high,” she said, adding “I want to thank all of my colleagues, the principal of Kerry College, Stephen Goulding and the Kerry Education and Training Board for supporting Universal Design for Learning in the college and for supporting my entry for the awards.”

“I especially want to thank Jean Reale of Mary Immaculate College and Jeremy Wrenn of Kerry ETB. I hope to continue to apply what I have learned with my colleagues in our ongoing promotion of inclusive learning in Kerry College,” concluded Celia.
The awards, hosted by University College Dublin, are an annual celebration of Universal Design for Learning expertise, showcasing the breadth and range of best practice in inclusiveness within further and higher education sectors.
Organised by AHEAD, the John Kelly Award for Universal Design in Further and Higher Education recognises the innovative practice of teaching staff in further and higher education engaging with the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework to deliver a more inclusive learning experience for their students.
The award aims to celebrate and promote the use of UDL in further education and higher education settings.
