KERRY ETB Training Centre is offering exciting technical development opportunities for aspiring wind turbine, fibre optic and overhead lines technicians.
These full-time courses address the demand for skilled personnel from companies operating in the respective sectors. The emphasis is on developing technical knowledge and hands-on practical skills so that course participants are job-ready by the end of their courses.
The centre’s innovative Wind Turbine Maintenance Technician programme gives participants the opportunity to develop the practical and technical skills needed to carry out planned and unplanned maintenance on the electrical, mechanical, gearbox and hydraulic systems of wind turbines.
They also learn how to work independently and in teams, climb and work at heights. Past graduates of this course are working for Irish and European wind turbine companies.
The newly introduced Fibre Installation Technician course is aimed at providing the communications cabling industry with personnel who have the specialist knowledge and skills to install, test and repair fibre optic and copper communications networks.
The course covers overhead and underground high speed fibre optic cables and structured cabling systems in buildings. Technicians must be as equally adept at working on poles, towers and mobile elevated platforms as they are at installing underground services and structured cabling systems in buildings.
The Overhead Lines Operative Traineeship is a well-established programme. Participants develop the skills to build, repair, refurbish and maintain the transmission and distribution networks that carry electricity from power stations and wind farms to our homes and businesses.
As with all three courses, applicants must have good colour vision, an appropriate level of fitness and the ability to work at heights. Past graduates of this course are working on major projects in Ireland and abroad.
